What's new

RBA vs pre-built - Please explain

Apart from picking up the occasional new bit of hardware my normal running costs to vape are about £10 to £12 for a whole months worth of vaping thanks to using RBA's and mixing my own juices. Your average 20 a day smoker will spend that in a single day. I've got so much vape hardware I'll never run out. I've got enough coil wire and cotton that it'll be several years before I run out so the only thing really that I still need to replenish are the ingredients for my juices.

I'm getting an extremely nice high quality vape and it's costing me pennies. As a result I can easily afford to try out new ideas to improve my vape which is why I've just spent out on a new RDA to give squonking a go.

somebody’s toenail clippers will suffice for cutting wire. you could even get away with an old sock instead of the bag of cotton :)

Forgot to say I use nail clippers to snip wire but I'll pass on an old sock. :)

I'm in the same situation. Have enough cotton and wire for years and enough nicotine in the freezer for making my own juice. I'm now at 0.5% nic so my 250ml bottle of nic (72) should be enough until my impending death or finally go nic free. Whichever comes first. It's difficult to put an exact cost but reckon my costs are less than £10 per month which includes all my pg, vg and flavouring.

Better vape experience and you are not limited to stock coil tanks....this comes at a cost as a whole new market opens up to you.

Lots of info here! Thank you all!

There's a lot of stuff out there that goes on about mesh giving the best flavour. I guess I need to try different ways and find out what is best for me. That's why I'm looking for a deck that can accommodate single, dual or mesh coils. I would like to give it a try though.
My style of vaping is restricted direct to lung so I need to find something that can accommodate that.

My one question left though is what exactly is the name of the one I'm looking for?
I don't want to have to drip or use a squonk mod. I want to be able to make the coils, wick it and then put it in a tank and top up with juice and not have to worry about dripping or any of that business. Is it RDA? RDTA? I think it's just RDA isn't it?

I will keep reading stuff and looking at reviews. My budget for my first one will be up to £40. I'll then need to buy different coil materials to see which I prefer.
Thanks again dudes

Oh, also. Is there anything special about the cotton for wicking or is it just literally 100% cotton? Is it the way it's spun that makes it suitable for vaping? Is there any difference between cotton you buy in a bag from Morrisons for wiping your face etc and something like Cotton bacon (I hear that's one of the best?)?

Quite a few established standard coil rta`s have a mesh version, usually denoted by the letter M in the name i.e. Wotofo Profile M, I`m sure there are others from Kylin etc.

RDAs are rebuildable dripping tank atomisers - so you DON'T want one of those.

RTAs are rebuildalbe TANK atomisers that resemble a stock coil tank, but you build your own coils.

RDTAs sit in the middle - it's kind of an RDA perched on top of a tank and the wicks go down into the tank, but you can also drip juice into them like an rda if you wish. These are generally easier for a newbie, but some can be tricky/messy to fill and can be a bit tall and not particularly good to look at. but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that.

Personally I would go for an RTA, but be prepared to spend a bit of time and effort getting it right as it can be a bit of a learning curve.

Generally cotton that is suitable for vaping has all the fibres running in the same direction - if you try to form a wick out of cotton balls you will pull it to bits when you pull it through the coil.

I like cotton Bacon - but a lot of people hate the stuff. As I don't use mesh very often I can't give any reliable recommendations but there are a few members here that vape mesh rebuildables regularly that will have a more reliable opinion on which is best to use.
