'Resist urge to control e-cigarettes', WHO told

Many thanks for all the links Mawsley, didn't have my research head on last night & this hadn't really broken elsewhere, so you're wonderful as always, mwah x

- However, it seems that what this is aiming at and what underlies a lot of the sudden 'pro-vaping' stance of Doctors and Healthcare officials who have previously appeared anti-vaping, again, is the regulation of e-cigs/vaping through healthcare authorities ... not really what we want and something we've missed out of our debating on this and recently related matters ... and because of that I worry that the signatories have ignored one of the underlying facts of the latest research from the UK and are pushing for a move that would be /could possibly be damaging and self-limiting, as it appears one of the reasons that vaping is so effective is because it is not currently regulated, and users currently have the freedom of choice to find the equipment that suits them and self-titrate the nicotine level that suits.

The point has been made by Deborah Arnott of ASH that the costs of the initial uptake are prohibitive to those on a low income or benefits, and whilst I can see this being the case in some situations, I can also say that as someone who is currently on a very low income that I managed to take up vaping and no longer smoke. OK, I can only dream of owning a collection of mods and atties, and it's pointless me answering a 'what's the latest thing you've bought ?' question, but hell, I can also only dream of buying anything else outside my limited budget besides the day-to-day at present, and the money I've saved from buying tobacco has really added up, so I believe it is possible if you want to give up enough.

Having spent the day channel hopping and web surfing to gather information for an article, I think this has had an unprecedented impact as far as vaping goes.

Every radio show with a phone in had it on at least one program, features on the news, interviews globally with members of the group, a dynamic and powerful message and an overload in the online media.

By 9am this was the No.1 ranking news story across all portals.

There may be, and are, those who say it will fall on deaf ears...but it has had a monumental impact.

Having just put my final copy to bed I'm shattered! What a day.

And it's worth reading Clive Bate's take on it - if, for nothing else, the insults he throws at Stanton Glantz :D

I don't think this one will fall on deaf ears. Their credibility, if not, their entire existence. May well be at stake if they do ignore it.

Its about bloody time someone put a non financial curve on this whole debate...... bloody tobacco companies had it all their own way for too long.

I believe this to be more Pharma and management by committee to be honest, Gary.

It's like putting Sepp Blatter in charge of, well, anything. The mother of all fuck-ups will ensue.

Baccy companies have been busy identifying companies for take-overs for the last six months ever since they woke up to the ecig phenomena...with one eye on medicalisation.

It's pharma who will lose out which is why they're looking to buy in too, now.

Mmm, I hadn't even considered the cash made by the pharm companies sorting out the mess left by smoking... always just looked at the tobacco companies and government.
