'Resist urge to control e-cigarettes', WHO told

And it's worth reading Clive Bate's take on it - if, for nothing else, the insults he throws at Stanton Glantz :D

:D

Hah looks like I'm talking to myself two posts in a row, :umm: however ...

Besides being on every news programme on R4 today, now on BBC World service 'Business Matters' a world view on e-cigs - discussion from about 45-50 mins in - probably available on I-player.

(Yes I am an old fart for my choice in radio stations and yes I do listen to the Archers - mainly so I can shout at the radio :D )

Vaping is certainly gathering momentum, even my Mum talks to me about it now. It's reaching the point of being an unstoppable force. Some great coverage today, the vast majority of it in our favour. The big tobacco companies buying up companies to pull in trademarks is a worrying angle. Surprising that the story didn't show on the BBC most read listings for most of the day despite the massive number of comments. I would call foul-play but don't go in for conspiracy theories in the main.

Baccy companies can produce the nicotine and sell it on the market for others to make our liquids, that would be a win-win situation.

Less smokers equals less air pollution and less damage to the environment, think reduced global warming.

Vaping is a new category and should be regulated on that basis, not shoehorned in to fit within existing medical or tobacco categories.

Once people make the switch to vaping, nicotine quickly takes a second place to the flavoring which becomes the new craving. It is a lifetime adventure and we all want to find and explore new taste sensations its within our nature.

This psychological unawareness between flavor and nicotine IS what helps people make the decision to eventually reduce their nicotine levels as they become flavor whores.

Mmm, I hadn't even considered the cash made by the pharm companies sorting out the mess left by smoking... always just looked at the tobacco companies and government.

NRT is small fry - it's only worth £200,000,000 in the UK.

But drugs treatments for cancer...almost $100billion globally and growing at 5% per annum.

Puts some perspective on it doesn't it?

I believe this to be more Pharma and management by committee to be honest, Gary.

It's like putting Sepp Blatter in charge of, well, anything. The mother of all fuck-ups will ensue.

Baccy companies have been busy identifying companies for take-overs for the last six months ever since they woke up to the ecig phenomena...with one eye on medicalisation.

It's pharma who will lose out which is why they're looking to buy in too, now.

Did anyone watch the program on BBC2 last week "BURNING DESIRE: The seduction of smoking"? Huge eye opener, and actually got into the doors of BAT both here and Australia - It was the first part, the second is this week in which it discusses electronic cigarettes. At the end of the first program, they eluded to what we might be watching and of course the proposed medicinalistion...should be as interesting as the first program, which asked some very probing questions of BAT, who like many a Politician, answered in the same way, not really answering at all!!

In football parlance: "On your own, on your own, on your own.."

It is noteable that 53 eminent scientists and health care professionals sign one letter...and yet only one cartoon character on an idiot signs the reply.

I am making it my mission to pull no punches when it comes to Stanton Glantz these days; the man is a cunt. A miserable excuse of a cunt to boot - so miserable that not even the ghost of Jimmy Saville would try to fuck him.
