Someone break down what they do and use for me please?

I fancy trying out striping the K100 that is sitting in my desk to junk the chrome plating off the brass but I haven't the first clue how to do it or what grade of stuff I need. Planning on attacking the contacts too in order to take them back to brass as well.

Is this something I could do chemically?

I have power tools, a garage full of bits but no clamp (although I have two children and they are expendable).

I lie - I've just remembered I have two ratchet clamps

Start with whatever grade paper you need to remove corrosion or plating. 80 is particularly brutal. Then go over it again and again using finer paper each time, 200, 400, 600, 1200, up to 2000. Each grade will remove the scratches from the previous grade and make finer scratches, so be careful not to skip ahead too soon. 1200 will not smooth scratches from 200. After you use the 2000, spit on the surface and do it wet, that's finer still. 2000 will give you a nice satin finish. After that, if you want a gloss, polish with Brasso, that's like an even finer grade and will yield a reflective surface.

Or if you can protect the electrics you could try soaking it in Cillit Bang bleach overnight

If you can find it, get hold of some Micro Mesh sheets. I use them for knife making and got hold of them through a forum i'm on..

They are amazing and go from 1500 to 12000 grit .. brings any metal up to a mirror shine.

You mat be able to get hold of some on ebay but beware of sheap fakes.
