I dont think revenue generated from tobacco is significant enough to factor in tbh when you look at thr figures.

Smoking is the most stupid and unhealthy things that most of us have ever done but I do not favour banning it.

Taxing things that have a cost to society is reasonable. Using some of that tax for education and treatment is also fine.

There is already a huge black market for tobacco. I do not see any benefit to society in giving the rest of the market to criminal gangs.

The move away from smoking will continue apace, as more folk switch to vaping and fewer young people start smoking in the first place. The die hard smokers are going to die out in time. There is no need for a ban.

Smokings harms are primarily to the smoker so it should be left to them to make their own stupid choices. Similarly with alchohol and unhealthy food. The appropriate government response is taxation, education and treatment.

Laws should be based on some sort of principle. Protecting people from harm caused by others is a sound principle.I personally do not find protecting people from themselves a good principle. That leads to the banning of cakes and dangerous sports and shit tv . In my opinion the individual should have the right to make stupid choices and to kill themselves however they like.

So by this date, tobacco will be illegal but weed will be commercially legal and for sale. Hmmm going to be some very stoned people if you have to smoke straight weed as you won't be able to get the tobacco to mix with [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]

And how will they fill the big hole created when the tax stops rolling in from cigs. Any health benefits from smoking cessation won't materialize for at least another generation so cost of health care will not drop anytime soon. Perhaps vaping will become the new cash cow for the Inland Revenue.

Exactly my fear when i hear talk of smoking being banned. Vaping is too closely connected to smoking in Joe Public's eyes otherwise it wouldn't be banned on public transport, hospitals, pubs etc.

It’s banned on public transport and in hospitals because some numbnuts are unable to control themselves or see that flooding a carriage/ward with fat clowdz, bro, is tediously annoying to everybody else.

Again, we are always constrained by the slowest, dimmest members of society.

I 100% agree @Mawsley , bunch of "Oh look at me" dickheads who give vaping a bad image.
Don't get me wrong, I've nothing against cloud chucking but not in public please. That sort of behaviour is akin to a smoker blowing smoke in your face.

We had a bloke on here back in 2013ish, moaning he’d been booted out of a supermarket for vaping at the meat counter.

Entitlement isn’t limited to vaping, but those who exhibit the trait do us no favours.
