I had a hard time with SS at first, but once I got it working properly, I really enjoy using it.
As has been said, I think the issue is the difference between SS depending where it is from, a lot of preset SS settings being for SS304, and the tiny room for error due to it's small variance in TCR causing a rather large jump in behaviour if you set it even a tiny bit off.
SS could be my favourite wire type, and I do use it on my mods that it works well on (Even with drippers surprisingly), but due to a lot of my mods supporting only NI200 or TI fully, I tend to use TI a lot as well as SS, as well as good old kanthal.
