The slow creep towards tobacco status?

If we started a PR system though, wouldn't that mean arsewipes like the BNP could feasibly get into government? I know their fuckwit leader is an MEP now thus proving that he was a confirmed fuckwit that could only be got rid of by electing him as an MEP so he goes to Brussels.Since he's been there,I've heard nothing from him so the "plan" worked :P

It might mean that they got representation in parliament, but as I say, that's the price you pay for a truly democratic system. There would be parties with extremist viewpoints, but the fact that they have support that is being denied representation just goes to show just how undemocratic the current system actually is.

I wonder if you've ever heard any say that there is no point in them voting because they live in a 'safe' seat and their vote would be nothing more than a protest. If their vote was actually allowed to count for something then they might be more willing to vote.

It's kind of fecked up that politicians complain that the public don't want to engage and get involved, when they are simultaneously denying them the means to do so by perpetuating the system that restricts the public to choosing between 3 options that are so similar, it doesn't seem to matter much which of them is in power.

True democracy would include the opportunity for all voices to be heard, even if those voices are speaking in outspoken, undesirable terms.

We have had a labour council my entire voting life, despite year after year after year the letters page of the local paper pouring scorn on "our council executive aren't fit" type basis. They have also managed to fuck up absolutely everything to do with improving the area, then blaming someone else for the reason why investors go elsewhere. When the last MP retired(now a Lord)after "30+ years of serving our area" we had another election & the result was yet another feckless halfwit labour MP was voted in.Though the last one was shit,at least I did get an appointment to see him. This one just keeps on saying he is too busy, then fires off childish tweets after 8-9 pm abusing others. There are moves afoot to get this bunch of executive councillors out as we have lost many services (tory cuts to blame) including the Public Toilets(only ones in the town)the Civic Hall(tory cuts)the area looks tatty through neglected grass-cutting(tory cuts)derelict play areas(tory cuts)yet previously, anything suggested as a means to improve the area needed hugely expensive consultants brought in,the public toilets are in the way of a roundabout proposed for the increased traffic for the huge offices being constructed opposite the toilet, offices to house Sellafield staff being out-sourced.Anything Sellafield needs is given instant approval(some say its because most of the council executive are paid by Sellafield,or receive allowances for Sellafield existing)Smaller councils in other areas aren't bleating they've had to cut services so drastically,a neighbouring borough hasn't had to cut services and is able to attract the investment that was originally intending to invest in our borough. This would show that our labour councillors are fuckwits, yet year after year, they're returned to the council.
