UK Gov To Ban Disposables?

“In October we are launching Sustainable Vaping Week alongside International E-Waste Day and this will focus on helping the industry to educate their customers about how to dispose of their single use devices and other vapes in an environmentally responsible way.”

Helping the industry educate their customers? Seriously?

It's a shame the industry didn't listen when people tried to educate them. None of them gave a flying F about recycling and what these things were gonna do. Now they are gonna blame their own customers for the situation they created, while continuing to manufacture and promote them. Made in China, dumped in Britain.

BBC correction: How dangerous is vaping - and why the concern over young vapers?

Editorial note: On 13th September, ASH Daily News included an BBC news article titled “How dangerous is vaping - and why the concern over young vapers?” which discussed the call for a ban on disposable vapes in the UK, the use of vapes as smoking cessation devices and concerns over the prevalence of vaping among young people.

The article included a quote by Prof John Britton, honorary professor at the University of Nottingham, which stated that “in 40 or 50 years' time, we will start to see people developing lung cancer, chronic bronchitis and other serious lung conditions as a result of their vaping.”

The article has now been updated to clarify that “those numbers are likely to be small - and far smaller than the health issues caused by smoking.”

The full revised quote is below:

But Prof John Britton, who advised the government on the issue, says in 40 or 50 years' time, we will start to see people developing lung cancer, chronic bronchitis and other serious lung conditions as a result of their vaping. But those numbers are likely to be small - and far smaller than the health issues caused by smoking.

Dr Mike McKean -
"Vaping is only a tool for adults who are addicted to cigarettes."
He says the 95% safe messaging was "a very unwise thing to have done and it's opened the door to significant chaos".
The "switch to vape" message has had an unintended consequence of driving children to take up e-cigs, he says.
Oh well, better lie about it instead then...

i think he is right, though. there were discussions about this stuff on here years ago but it was focused more on the marketing and attempt to create a “cool” subcultural market niche by the industry. exploding volcanoes, 200W mods, graffiti text, skulls, vape tricks and celebrities with made up names. so stupid, all of it. i think both of these things, plus the arrival of disposables, is a very bad thing for ordinary folk who just wanted to stop smoking.

i think all that daft image stuff also had the effect of excluding a lot of folk, and might even be a contributor to the popularity of the paper shop/petrol station disposable boom.

I agree to most of that...
Saying that vaping is 95% less harmful than smoking is a double-edged sword - to inform smokers that vaping is a much less harmful alternative, or to give the impression that there's not much harm to never/seldom smokers, which could lure some in.. that's the way it goes...
Essentially it's a revolution; enjoyment of nicotine can now be done in a multitude of ways without all the harm caused by smoking, so it's going to possibly attract non-smokers (who are so far in a tiny minority).
.. the arrival of disposables, is a very bad thing for ordinary folk who just wanted to stop smoking.
Not according to all the smokers (maybe millions) who quit smoking using disposables.
(Or those that use disposables infrequently, and recycle properly).
