NHS to get £3bn extra funding to protect against possible second wave of Covid-19, Boris Johnson to announce https://a.msn.com/r/2/BB16PRQX?m=en-gb&referrerID=InAppShare

The NHS will get an extra £3 billion in funding to prepare for a possible second wave of coronavirus, Boris Johnson is set to announce. The Prime Minister will also use a Downing Street press conference on Friday to commit to a new target of reaching the capacity for 500,000 coronavirus tests a day by November.

The UK government have that much faith in their system to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic in the UK they're already planing to fight a second wave.
:omg:

And in the winter time there will be more people in hospital with other things, like ordinary flu and stuff. I know of at least 2 people whose lives have been pretty much ruined due to "covid only treatment" being available, I will go as far to say another person has had their life shortened, or even soon to be lost, because of it all, that person is early 40s and has young children and a partner.

Are we actually complaining about 3B being put into the NHS ?

A second wave in inevitable because of the nature and contagious levels of the disease

hasn't everyone been moaning for years about how the NHS needs more funding ?

Got to give people something to whinge about ;)

It's a bit late, and there's plenty of valid criticisms, but can't deny this is a good thing. Will be interesting to see how it's spent.

Its a bit late by many many years

in terms of the current incarnation of the government - its actually not that far away from the time they were officially voted in.

quite a massive step in a short time id say. But I know what you mean.

Not sure I'd agree that it's inevitable.
Or imo it certainly doesn't need to be.

What strikes me as painful is it appears they have no faith in their ability to control the virus to the point they suspect the current nhs stronghold as it is will need an additional 3bn injection to be able to cope with what they perceive to be coming.

No country has contolled it. Still having outbreaks in all major countries including the super efficient Germans, It's all about containing it as best the world can & if, by keeping it localised & controlable, we can maintain low death rates. This won't be over until either a viable vaccine is found, or it naturally dies out. It's a marathon not a sprint.
