Vape Tax.. we all knew it was coming

Thanks, I decided that I was sick to death with being an addict and going cold turkey doesn't work for me, so I have weaned myself down from a starting point of 6mg.

I read an article a few years back, I can't for the life of me find it again, it suggested that Nicotine is only highly addictive when burnt. When vaped or absorbed through the skin, like with Snus, it is only mildly addictive like caffeine.

When I was on fags, if I went more than a couple of hours without one I could feel it creeping up on me. But now, if I am busy, actually doing a physical task, then I forget about it. I haven't had that "faggy" feeling for quite a while.

When this tax comes in, I want to be in a position to be able to avoid it. They can tax hardware, I have enough hardware here to last a decade and if it comes to it I can make my own coils, they can't tax coils of wire, stainless steel 316 round wire is used in industry. They can't tax cotton either, I don't use vape branded cotton as it is a rip off. For the price of 20 strips of Cotton Bacon or similar, I can get a huge bag of Labo Cotton Puff that will last for years. Labo Cotton Puff is just pads of unbleached organic Japanese cotton.

I don't see how they can tax products like plain glycerin, as they are used in many different industries from catering to medicine. The same is true of flavours, they can't tax what is essentially food flavourings. The only thing the can tax is nicotine and liquids that contain it.

So my aim is to be Nicotine free by the end of March, that will be 2 years since I quit smoking for good. My hope is that they will leave shortfills alone, so I can top them up with plain premixed and carry on with my day.
I watched a BBC documentary a couple of years ago about vaping, it was very interesting, and in that they stated that nicotine is not addictive and not carcinogenic. It's the additional ingredients that are added to cigarettes that causes the addiction and all the other problems.
I've been vaping for nearly 10yrs now and alternate been 3mg and 6mg nic depending what device I'm using and quite often vape 0mg nic juice without any craving for a nic hit.

Similar here I switch between 3 and zero nic. A TV doctor, Michael Mosley (I think) took up vaping for a protracted period because there were so many myths surrounding it, at the end of his experiment he reported no lasting ill effects and no sign of addiction.

What I read was that when tobacco is burnt, it mixes with the other chemicals produced by the burning process, making it more addictive. It is also absorbed much faster when smoked. When I gave up smoking I dual fuelled for a couple of days, so I could adjust progressively.

I think a lot of the myths are started, via the papers and social media, by Big Tobacco, Big Pharma and the worst of the lot the American Stop Smoking services.

Big Pharma are always going to make money. Big Tobacco have lost the "western world", but still have massive unregulated markets in the rest of the world. If vaping takes hold and everyone in the US quits, the Anti Smoking Lobby are all out of jobs.

I took a generation for the world to accept that smoking was bad. It will take another generation to dispel the myths around vaping. Not long ago I tried to encourage my Wife's friend to quit smoking, she has a nasty cough all the time and is struggling financially. Her first statement was "Why would I want to swap cancer for Popcorn lung." Even when I showed her the hard facts that Popcorn Lung caused by the inhalation of Diacetyl has always been a myth, she claimed "if it was a myth the papers wouldn't be allowed to print it."

Some of these other chemicals i read were added for the purpose of making cigarettes more addictive for financial gain.

I think the BBC one I watched was a reporter that didnt smoke but took up vaping for 6 months and during that time he was monitored and had many tests done. His main concern was if he would become addicted. After the 6 month period he stopped straight away with no effect.

I have never heard of that. Nicotine when smoked is one of the most addictive substances known to man anyway. They do add allsorts to ready made cigs, like Saltpeter to keep them burning, which is why a rollie goes out and a ready made stays lit.

I know people that vape these disposable things and have never smoked. They seem to be able to take them and leave them. I am going to see if I can find this BBC show.

Was it this?

Edit: I found this clip. It basically backs up what we have all been saying here...

I am going to endeavour to find the whole show.

I read it years ago when I was researching the history and evolution of cigarettes. The best way to ensure you have a captive and dependant audience was to make them addictive. I think when we talk about addiction, nicotine and cigarettes are two different scenarios.
