What's new

Who's had it, how was it, and how are you?

Had what I presume was omicron over Xmas, nothing serious bit of a cough and a sore throat . Nothing that would have made you phone in sick for work if you hadn't tested positive.
Now though I'm finding it hard to breath at times and getting out of breath easily . Not too bad though.j

Thought my (added) eyesight problems was a variation of my own madness, maybe not....

An issue that has not received a lot of attention in COVID-19 and Long COVID discussions is that the virus can cause minor or major vision changes that may be temporary or permanent. In the acute phase, COVID infections can be transmitted through the eyes (keep washing your hands, avoid touching your face, and steer clear of people who are coughing or sneezing), but more commonly hypoxia (blood oxygen levels under 95%) and optic nerve inflammation are causing nerve demyelination damage.

It is really important to get you eyes checked by an optometrist, ophthalmologist and/or a retinal specialist if you are experiencing eye problems or vision changes. As we have seen with many other long COVID challenges, doctors may not be able to visualize issues like demyelination of the nerve, so identifying the cause and diagnosis will be a matter of eliminating other issues like glaucoma, vitreal detachment (that can be repaired surgically if caught early) and infection.

Many members report vision issues including:

  • Changes in prescriptions

  • Dry eye

  • Excessive tearing

  • Blurred vision

  • Prism effect in one or both eyes

  • Appearance of looking through running water

  • Temporary blind spots or loss of vision

  • Eye pain/pressure

  • New or worsened color blindness

  • Light sensitivity

  • Floaters

  • ”Lightening” flashes in the eyes

Who's had covid, what variant did you have/ think you had, how was it for you, have you suffered from long covid and how are you today?

I had Delta, I enjoyed the perverse fever, it felt like being cleansed, which of course is the idea of a fever. I also felt (temporarily) cleansed, above and beyond the covid aspect, it was weird.

I have some long covid going on, but at a lesser level than another ape. Long covid is the cunt that gets you, just when you think it's a done deal, and you've survived, it comes along and fucks you up.
Had what I think was Omicron 2 weeks before Xmas ... Think it was Omicron by the speed it ripped round everyone present.

still have not got my taste back fully, which is putting the crimp on a planned new range and get tired really really easily, dont feel quite right ... yet functional

Loss and altered taste and smell is a much less reported symptom of Omicron, one in five. Still possible you might've had Delta :hmm: My taste buds are totally messed up, since Delta (late October/ early November) but at least I dont need them for work. Must be a nightmare, for all manner of people, from chefs, to wine/ beer tasters and producers, all the way through to people like you who develop and produce new blends and ranges. The implications of long term loss and altered taste and smell is mind boggling.

I nearly poisoned myself with XCP rust blocker working on my bike because of the lack of smell tbh

If you have ever used that stuff it smells like a cross between petrochemicals, cat piss and VX nerve agent - it screams “toxic as fuck!”

i can normally only use it at arms length with my head turned the other way id been laying under my bike with my head next to the can spraying it for minutes while i was isolating - and only realised what i was doing when i felt it building up on my face.

I had it over Christmas

Started on the 23rd as what felt like a Cold (runny nose, sore throat, sneezing etc), but not like i've felt before. This came on far too fast compared to colds i've had before. I'd been daily testing since the 18th December cos thats when the missus tested positive, and i'd been isolating from her since, while doing daily LFT tests and got my booster on the 20th. But, the lateral flow test i did on the 23rd was negative. I called work before i set off, advising i have symptoms but a negative lateral flow, do you want me to come in, or work from home? They opted for work in the office as long as i did another test when i arrived (which was also negative). By late afternoon I felt like something wasn't right, so i did another LFT, which again was negative, but i decided to book a PCR for the following morning. Just before i went to bed, did another, and got a negative again.

24th: LFT Positive, and i go for my PCR test. I knew by that point it was a certainty. Most of the cold symptoms had fucked off apart from the runny nose, but i was left with the feeling i'd been punched hard in the chest.
25th: Merry Christmas from the NHS! Your PCR test is positive. At least i still had my sense of taste and smell to enjoy my mum's christmas dinner i was looking forward to (what an absolute diamond, she sent my sister over with all the food in trays to plate up :D), so it wasn't a complete loss. Also felt much better, the runny nose had been replaced with thick snot that feels like you can't get rid of, no matter how hard you blow.
26th-29th: Felt absolutely fine. The thick snot phased out over the remaining days, and i was all clear on day 6 and 7 of my isolation, and allowed out on the 30th.

30th: Fuck-it, off for a few pints with the lads. LFT beforehand just to make sure ;)

Hey Andi

Good thread as its nice to share and read about others experiences, at least u feel like you are not alone.

Well most know I caught it from my family in Oct, symptoms started on 20th Oct LF positive on 22nd PCR on 23rd. Delta variant

Felt shite, no fever, no cough but a cold, body aches, tiredness and headaches plus the breathing issues. Lasted about 2 weeks like that then got a chest infection so went on 2 lots of antibiotics over 10 days.
Then a urine infection twice. Since my initial covid I have now been told I have long covid. As previously shared my main symptoms have been a variations of these:
Fatigue, at times severe
Lack of concentration
Very low mood and anxiety
Nausea
No appetite
Lack of taste and smell (thats improved)
Generally feeling shit

In total now I've had 5 lots of different antibiotics for initial covid, uti and then a sinus infection just b4 Christmas. They now think i had Omnicron too the week of chrimbo based on new symptoms since.

Dr referring me to a covid centre for tests, not too sure what can be done tbh as everywhere states that its just time, could be months could be over a year!
FML, its sucks big time, u have a few good days and then u spiral downwards and then have some really shit ones. Most people don't understand how debilitating it can be. I feel like a shadow of myself. So i enjoy the good days and push through the bad with the help of good friends.

wasn't aware you had it that bad dee dee sounds horrible

for me, I was very ill for two weeks at the beginning of all this before tests were mainstream the symptoms matched but I will never know

worked in it on it and beside it, knew and saw lots of people with it and still do in fact, also saw and knew people (too many people) who died from it some I spoke too and were close friends and some family (although the family I am still unsure of due to the tests) all very sad and depressing

Hey all, sorry ive been absent for a while..

Still suffering with Long Covid which sucks, main symtoms now and we are talking 3 and a half months on are:

Tiredness, better but still noticeable to the point i can no longer concentrate on much and have to go to bed or fall asleep where i am lol.

Nausea, this one started about 1 month ago. Maybe related may not be, having some tests currently

Frequent Headaches, im a migraine sufferer anyway but this is daily headaches which are manageable but get you down

Mental Health, whilst it has improved, less anxiety probably as im more social now and back in the office a few days a week but the low mood is still there just very up and down
AREmoji_20220205_014537_22387.gif

On top of this since having covid ive been on 6 lots of antibiotics due to:
Chest infection, initially requiring 2 lots of antibiotics
Sinus infection
3 Urine/bladder infections

Im also suffering with dizziness but that could be aide effects from a procedure i had relating to hormones and lady issues.
AREmoji_20220205_014352_10402.gif

Shoot me now lol. No, whilst its hard going I am also very aware that many have loss their lives, suffered greatly and have a very extreme version of long covid, i suppose things could be much worse for me so for that I am grateful that i can still partially get on with some bits.

Anyway, hope you are all well
