And another exploding ecig

imo the message would be stop buying cheap s**t off ebay or your corner shop(via ebay),whether that be chargers, batteries, clearo's or mod's.
There's no need for it .genuine stuff is safe, well made and cheap.
And the minor saving results in poor performance ,bad taste and if your really unlucky a burnt doon hoose.

The charging plug I'm current using is 5 volts/500mA
CE RoHS. I use this to charge ego batteries and my MVP V2.

To be honest the plug does feel a little cheap and these exploding batteries has got me worried.

Can anyone recommend me a good quality charger? Or should I just buy the Masterplug? Thanks.

that's all well and good but my first ego kit and all the genuine clearos i own came from ebay. i still use the charger that it came with them. my corner shop sells well packaged brand name ego kits and the only fake item (other than known fast tech ones) i have owned was a protank 2, sold to me buy my local B&M vape shop.

that should be fine dude. it's the ego charger that would cause the problem, as long as its the wired one that outputs 4.2v at 450 or 420mah and the light goes from red to green you're using a suitable charger.

i've had a look at the masterplug and the outputs are both 1amp, this is still too high for the 500mah purists but it'll work just as well. i also don't think the surge protection works on the usb output. to me it looks like a regular surge protector that has normal usb outputs grafted on to it. excellent for your lawnmower etc... but no safer for charging an e-cig.

OK thanks mate. So the problems are not really with the plugs? It is with the part that screws onto the ego battery? Yes its output is 4.2V 420mA.

yeah, this is all my opinion though. but as far as i can see using a high amperage power supply doesn't mean a thing as long as the charger that you are using is the correct one. even if the charger fails using a 500mah supply it's still outputting 5v to the battery and it's an over voltage that causes fireworks, not over current. saying that, Tubbyengineer will probably be along to tell me i'm wrong :)

my guess is that the chargers that are blowing batteries up are ones meant for a battery with the charging circuit built in, that have been ordered by someone trying to buy a few e cigs to make a quick few quid who has paired them with an unsuitable battery.

I suppose the best thing is to use the lower 500mah in case the cable dies and fails to regulate the volts. Better to have 500mah unregulated than a 1000mah.

it doesn't make a difference imo as it's not the higher current that will make the battery explode, it's because it's been charged to 5v instead of 4.2v. that's when lithium batteries get dangerous. i charge my ego battery from any available usb port, even the one for my tablet because i'm confident my charger is safe.

I've got a feeling that the chargers themselves are nothing more than a resistor and a simple circuit that measures the current flowing into the battery. High at first, then as it lowers past a certain amount the light goes green. That's it. It won't turn off. If no one is around to unplug them, they'll continue to overcharge the battery until it fails or explodes.

i disagree. if that was the case then the charger would be outputting 5v to the battery. all of the ego chargers i've used have a pcb in them (i opened them and checked) and also state the output mah and voltage on them. batteries would also charge four times faster if connected to a 2.1amp supply then they would if connected to a 500mah one. this isn't the case with any charger i've used. a good ego charger cuts off and stops charging when the battery is full, regardless of the power supply it's connected to.
