Are we Wrong to Lockdown?

... actually I'll go further, I think the opposite is true and selfish assholes are the minority.

I agree, it's just that we only ever really hear about the arseholes. There are plenty of people around selflessly helping others. It doesn't have to be a big deal either and because of this, we don't get to hear about it.
I mean, if somebody walks around the UK to raise money to pay for some poor sick kiddies medical bills, it gets plastered all over the place. But those that do a bit of shopping for someone who can't get to the shops, or mows the lawn of a disabled neighbour doesn't get a mention. Not that they necessarily should of course, but a lot of good deeds are done that go unnoticed and are therefore not generally known about.

TL:DR. A lot more people helping others that we don't hear about. Just the arseholes getting the headlines.

Salad bowl not melting pot though . In together but separate with different tastes , only united by the dressing of the law of the land covering us .

i’d be more inclined to say the dressing of culture.

Yes I suppose but small groups of decent people and small groups of cunts [emoji6]

we’re all cunts. i suppose it depends on your definition of cunt. i think we use it differently up here.

exactly.. and people are willing to help 'faceless names' here aren't they?

I don't think people that vape are some kind of special minority group that are extra helpful.

Aren't you just contradicting yourself? Forget the circle friends thing, that's not what I'm saying.

You say "There doesn't seem to be many people out there that will help a stranger."

and I'm saying I don't that's true, I think most people would. .... if they could.
I don't believe I'm contradicting myself at all.
How many people on this forum ! Only a small percentage would help others out ( I'm not including help via advice) with "physical " help ie. Sended things and repairing things for free or cost. How many people enter comps and give aways but don't do any themselves ! Thats a very small percentage of the forum that are generous nevermind the population. How many people in the UK ?

If you or I walked up the road half a mile or so and knocked on a random front door and asked the owner for a lift down town because your car had broken down do you really think they'd do it ? I don't.

You've obviously had better interactions with people round the world than I have.

Help via advice is still help..... what do you think 'citizens advice' do? ..... Help people.

Not everyone is able to offer physical help, especially if there's a financial burden to that. That doesn't make them 'selfish and arrogant'. Like I said many people wish they could do more but aren't in a position to do so.

... and it definitely not about 'generosity' or giving away things.

Maybe I have just had better interactions with people. I'm not sure about knocking on strangers doors for a lift, but all the times I've been broken down at the side of the road someone has stopped to check I'm OK, either someone else on 2-wheels or a white van man with the offer of a lift somewhere.

Either way, there's nothing to argue about. I'm just glad I don't look at the society with the same cynical disdain.

the question was about 'where it ends'.

I did say 'in the future' ..... maybe the next pandemic or crisis of some other kind, I don't know the situation that it might be implemented. But it feels highly likely that it would be.

... and your second comment just confirms that's the direction we are going in doesn't it?

i think we need to distinguish between state governments and globalised transnational capitalism.

I would say the opposite , culture is the thing that keeps us separate. It's the internal cultural conflicts that cause many of our divisions ..

if you think about it, it’s the same with salad dressing.

edit: unless you’re one of the weirdos that puts all the ingredients in a blender.

The law is the bowl then ..which leaves the serving tongs to be ...ummm ...the tax man ?
