Covid19 and the great reset

@ZT on the subject of champagne socialists, i’ve never met one myself; i think the term was coined to describe tommy sheridan.

however, champagne is a good example of a commodity that is subjected to artificially manufactured scarcity as a means to inflate it’s exchange value.

in reality, champagne should be available in abundance. i look forward to a day when we can empower the french to get to work on creating champagne lakes, producing a surplus of champagne that will be freely available to all on the basis of need.

I totally agree with your observations but champagne is no more than overhyped fizzy piss sparkling wine. If people are gullible to enjoy it purely because of the image of exclusivity and price then let them - you can hardly blame the French for taking advantage of the stupid. Lets face it - if they didn't spend on champagne they'd just blow it on some other variety of magic bean.

don’t misunderstand, a socialist who enjoys champagne isn’t necessarily a champagne socialist. :)

Being on a universal basic income provided by the state with everything else provided as rental from big tech and large corporations doesn't sound like a good idea to me as it will be dependent on behaving and and speaking in a manner that allows you access to those services.

I agree with you about how wasteful we've become and home ownership though.

It might not be a great idea, but jobs are disappearing to technology. Robotics, computers etc. The jobs that were around 30 years ago aren't around now. In another 30 years there will be even less with self driving taxis, no high street shops and whatever else I can't even imagine. UBI will be necessary. People will be less important to the economy.

kind of glad i won't be around. :D

technological progress should eliminate the need to work for subsistence. any other outcome would be perverse. :)

China ranks 'good' and 'bad' citizens with 'social credit' system

A very small dystopian price to pay for half fare bus tickets and free library membership, no? :30:
