I’m an apple person so don’t have an AltGr key. Am I missing much?

Not really. It was an experiment to find out my keyboard locale/layout but it's near impossible to work it out.
If I want any unusual characters I'd go somewhere like here...
https://www.unicode.org/charts/
... then type the character's Unicode...
e.g. In Linux, CtrlShift u 00F7 gives ÷ (division sign)

Ah my mac has a special application that shows me how to get to all the special characters.

As does my Manjaro Linux so we're equal. I have a choice - internet, Linux character selector or big hammer.

It’s amazing that a couple of months ago petrol stations would refuse to serve you unless you removed it. Now they are threatening not to serve you unless you wear it.
