Hello ladies and gents. I am looking for some advice on building my new Fogger v5. I'm not new to RDAs and coil building but this is my first fogger and struggling to get a decent vape from it. It seems to vape really harshly, no burning, wicks perfectly but its just sooo harsh with very little 'fog' to speak of!

I think (had a few attempts so far [emoji16] ) I've used 0.25mm2 A1 Kanthal, dual coils coming in around 1.6Ohms, so 3.2Ohms each coil, around 8 wraps each around 2 mm inner diameter. Using Japanese organic cotton too. There are no leaks or gurgles, everything seems fine but as mentioned the vape is harsh. Tried it from 10Watts to 25Watts and still the same. I also tried sub ohm build using 0.4mm A1 Kanthal, around 0.6Ohms with the same results.

Any experienced 'foggers' want to share their build secrets would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Rich

Close the airflow off slightly, i've notiv]ced with my 4.1 that it can sometimes seem a bit harsh when the airflow is too airy.

Hi BD1. Have tried all sorts of configurations with the airflow and it's still the same, with more or less air
What size wire / coil and wicks are you using? My coils are perfect on my dripper but seem to be missing something in the fogger.

Had the same problem on the 4.1 until i used very much less cotton so little that i thought it was gonna piss juice all over, so if you think thats nowhere near enough cotton its prob about rite
kanthal wise i build fogger with 28g 1.5mm dia.

hope that helps, know i was one build from giving up back then

Cheers Ade66 , Will give less cotton a try. Just waiting on a new batch of Kanthal to arrive (including 28awg) so will try again. I'm used to making tight 2mm microcoils for recoiling my protank attys. Are your coils tight (as in all the wraps are together) or are they spread, as in spaces between the wraps?

Yes microcoils are the way for these.

And VERY little cotton.

You don't want to feed the cotton into the channels. Just Kayfun style resting at the top.

Plumes of vapour and amazing flavour too.

Persevere with it mate, will blow you away once you get it right.

Regarding closing off the airflow, this will make the draw tighter, warmer and less foggy.

Have you given it a good clean and checked there isn't any swarf in the juice channels?

Ash

Cheers Ash, gave it a thorough scrub to remove machine oil and swarf to start with. Juice channels are clear so shouldn't be a problem there. Was hoping my 28awg would of turned up today but unfortunately it didn't. Might give it another try with some 30awg I have leftover, microcoil with minimal cotton. It looks and feels superb so I will keep going with it. The only thing I don't like about it are coil mounting posts; spring loaded pins which don't hold wire securely and never line up easy. I've swapped em out for screws as they were really crap.

I can't handle failure so I will be persevering lol. Luckily my aerotank turbo did turn up in the post and that's most definitely hitting the spot!

i keep the wraps as close as i can, when its rite its well worth all the troubles glad your not giving up

I'm a fan of the fogger v4.. been using little else for the past few months, so I decided to give the v5 a whirl.

I set it up as I would normally do for the v4 and was getting the same harshness as you are describing. I stripped it down and realised that the coils were a bit high off the deck (the 'natural' position of the coils seem to be a bit higher due to the height of the holes in the terminal posts). I moved the coils down closer to the airholes in the deck and also re-wicked with a little less density in the cotton wicks. The juice inlets are smaller on the v5 than the v4 and I may have been retarding the juice flow by partially blocking the inlets (I've tended to leave the wick strands in the juice inlets on the v4 but with the smaller inlets on the v5, I'm guessing it's easier to block the flow).

Anyway, after lowering the coils and rewicking with less cotton, the vape has improved quite a bit and it seems to be bedding in nicely now, so if you're still struggling a bit, it might be worth looking at coil height/wick density.

I've been having trouble getting my fogger right as well, last build I did, the vape was very warm, I prefer cool, and the throat hit was reminiscent of a throat infection I had as a kid
