OhmZone - Vape gear marketplace

Various schemes have been suggested before and have met with pretty universal condemnation from the members here @Robert Docherty.
We operate our own Classified Sales Section here which is accessible once you have made your Post Count up to in excess of 100 Posts. The reasons that this was put in place was to combat the problems that you have already high lighted when speaking about various fb groups. Since the implementation of this rule, problems which were legion have all but disappeared. This works well for all of us, whether Buying, Selling, Trading, or simply offering items as Giveaways. By the time a member has amassed a sensible post count, we all have a pretty good idea about them and are better placed to make our own judgement.
We also operate our own version of a Feedback System which further helps with decisions about with whom you may be potentially dealing.
Unlike some other facilities, our Classified Sections are constantly monitored and any errors or slightly questionable listings are dealt with pretty rapidly.

In short, we are a very successful forum, we have nothing but our members best interests at heart, so you'll understand when someone comes along and makes suggestions such as your's that we might get slightly nervous about motives etc?
Sorry if that seems harsh, but that's how we roll.
I completely understand. I have a background in fraud investigation & prevention which is why I am passionate about OhmZone as OhmZone can prevent the hundreds of people who are being defrauded through Facebook groups. I appreciate that you have your own way of verifying the legitimacy of people and I think it's great that you are doing that. I want to do the exact same thing and continue to help out the vaping community.

Hi Robert

I'm afraid you're going to get a slightly frosty reception because :

a. we've had a few bad experiences with a couple of businesses recently
b. your first post on our community was plugging your own site
c. we have our own successful classified sales section

We've no problem with having vendors on here, but you do need to get vendor status from the admins and it helps just to hang out and chat as well - don't just push your product. Honestly we're a friendly bunch, stick around and make a few friends.

@Robert Docherty , “Arseholes Galore” is a traditional phrase we use in Scotland to express surprise and/or frustration, a bit like zut alors in France. Cor Blimey in England, Golly Gee in America etc. I don’t think @Sp3ckyh0td0g81 was literally calling you an arsehole so don’t worry.

So may I suggest that you take this scheme elsewhere then @Robert Docherty? We are more than covered, so I'd suggest you start talking to admins on various fb groups.
Just to hopefully assist, I would suggest that you would be better off avoiding "SV WTB/WTS/WTT" "UK Squonkers Want To Sell-Trade-Buy" "SVB Mods" "Limelight Mechanics" "Aldin Mods" and "Affordable Mods" as all of these have the bases covered. :)

dont have to pay 9% commission using the classies either

Yeah, I didn't see that before..... what a joke.

That's exactly why these Facebook groups have become popular because there isn't some crook trying to skim a percentage for doing fuck all...... parasites.

Good luck with your site Rob!
I'm happy to pay for most things via PayPal due to the buyer protection as it's never let me down yet on any claims i have needed to persue.
Buying from anywhere is a risk whether new or second hand,NDB springs to mind!

OK, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt for a moment.... you are right I'm not getting the point.

I don't understand what you are offering other than the sound advice that people should be using Paypal goods and services for sales transactions? (well like duh)

....what is to stop someone contacting a seller about an item and that seller telling them they want paid another way?

... and what benefit to me is there to sell something there?

.. and how does the platform stop people being scammed? (and don't say paypal, you are not paypal)
Only using PayPal goods and services is something that you and I know but not everyone knows this hence why so many people are scammed on a daily basis through Facebook groups and other platforms. We dont just give "sound advice that people should be using Paypal goods and services for sales transactions" we force all sales that go through OhmZone to be PayPal goods and services.

As I mentioned in a previous post I have a background in fraud investigation and prevention. Your first question is actually a very common type of fraud. No platform can prevent that from happening whether it be eBay, Amazon or even your own classified listings. It's dissapointing that more can't be done about it but that's a national issue in all markets not just the ecigarette market.

The benefit of selling something on OhmZone is the safety aspect. As well as forcing all transactions through PayPal G+S we also securely store information about sellers. Name, address, email address etc and the address is also verified using GPS location through your device. If, god forbid, a seller on our platform was to do something fraudulent then we have all of that information that can be passed on to the police and Action Fraud, the UK's fraud reporting centre

@Robert Docherty I should also have said.................
We are delighted to have you here as a member and look forward to your further contributions. I don't know whether you are aware, but we are the Largest UK Vaping Forum and that came about for a very good reason. :) We try to embrace all ideas, but will point out when we already have similar systems in place. :2thumbsup:

I don't understand how providing a safe platform for people to buy and sell on to prevent them from being defrauded makes me a crook?. Surely it's the opposite of being a crook? The platform that we are using to provide this service is very expensive hence why we charge a commission. If at the end of the day the commission is only enough to pay for those fees then I'll be happy
Good luck with your site Rob!

No problem, I appreciate your feedback anyways :)

I get that and think that this forum is great and full of useful information. I know that you have a similar thing put in place and I think that's awesome but not every vaper in the UK is on this forum, think about your new vapers who are going on facebook to get a cheap starter kit or maybe someone who isnt very good with computers goes on to facebook to try and get a bargain on some hardware. Chances are those types of people wont have heard about this forum and the good work that you guys do. We're trying to stop these kinds of people from being defrauded through the facebook groups.
Let's face it, if you're on any of those groups you hear about someone being defrauded every single day
