DPI resolution is very important and is a big part of the reason why two different photos that may look exactly the same on screen have such wildly different file sizes. You see the difference in how long some photos take to load.
I'd have thought the forum software should be able to handle resizing images when they are uploaded?
The same resolution photo on a 20" Monitor will have a different DPI on a 32" Monitor. DPI and resolution are 2 different things.
I think you're getting confused between a 'FILE' and a 'DISPLAY'.
Display screens such as monitors and TV's are a seperate issue.
This is about digital image files.
Digital photographs and also videos in the form of JPG, MP4 or other kinds of file type contain a certain number of pixels or dots which gives you the resolution for that particular file.
A 10" x 8" photo will still have the same frame size (10 x 8) but the file size can vary wildly depending on the pixels or dots per inch so if you scanned it at 72 DPI and again at 1200 DPI it would still be a 10 x 8 photo but the file size would be 16 times larger.
Interesting you mentioned image content. Was playing around with my phone yesterday. Didn't change any settings but took 2 photos. One of the ceiling and another of some boxes. The ceiling image was 1.6MB and the boxes image was 3.8MB. Every day is a school day.I think you're the one that is confused. DPI is a physical term (Inch is a Physical measurement). A digital image has a pixel resolution that has no physical quality until it is rendered. Resolution (number of pixels W*H) is one factor in image size. Image Quality is also a factor, as well as image content.
I'm a complete phone camera ludite so bear with .here we go
