MANFLU

, I stand corrected.

Think I am mixing up they are all respiratory virus.

Some worse than others.

There have been years wherw influenza has killed tens of thousands.
There have been rare years where it has killed millions world wide.
Spanish flu.
Asian flu.
Hong Kong flu.
I think each of those was in the millions of deaths World wide.

Unpopular opinion but the situation in the country is nothing like it is being presented as anymore. It is being compounded by this whole mask debate but the data vs the news is completely different now.

The positive test rate is only 2.5% a day, well over a million tests done each day and only 2.5% are positive.

The positive to hospital admissions is extremely low.

The hospital to ICU rate is only around 10%.

The flu and Pneumonia (grouped together in the data) is a much higher leading cause of death significantly more than covid and has been since April of this year.

I honestly think now we are right in the middle of misinformation and everything that follows is a reaction to that rather than the true picture. Take the headlines for another example.

The negative

40 THOUSAND NEW CASES TODAY (as deaths are low)
POSTIVE RATES AS HIGH AS JANUARY 2021
COULD HAVE X THOUSAND DEATHS A DAY (could being the word that is used)
CANNOT STOP WEARING MASKS FOR X REASONS

Whereas imagine if the deadlines ahead of lifting restrictions were as follows

POSITIVE TEST RATE REMAINS ONLY 2.5% AHEAD OF THE LAST VACCINATIONS TO COME
DEATH RATE AS LOW AS AUGUST 2020
HOSPITAL COVID ADMISSIONS DROP TO ONLY 5% (made that figure up, but it will be a few thousand vs this 280k + tests a week)
COVID RECOVERY RATE UP TO 99% (we have not got that data, so that is made up)
COVID DROPS BELOW FLU AS ONLY THE 24th LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH FOR THE LAST 4 MONTHS

Completely different picture in the country. The more we focus on the negative, we are blinded to the positive of the situation. Just how it is reported to us, especially as once everyone is vaccinated, there will still be positive tests, there will still be deaths, no matter how low they are. We are literally at a point where flu is more deadly than covid now and we are vaccinating thousands more people against covid on a daily basis, 45 million people jabbed, 30 million double jabbed which is pretty much all of the vunerable groups.

We are in the end game but honestly, reading the news it feels like we are in the middle of a crisis instead.

so what’s your conclusion? should restrictions be lifted on the 19th?

yes
no

:)

in short.... no

and the reason this

I jest of course but really how hard is it, really to just wash your hands wear a facemask and stay 1 meter apart is this hard am i asking you to pull the rods out of a nuclear reactor ?

just for a few weeks a cautious approch places can still open track and trace tests etc so those areas can continue but people will say oh nightclubs and theaters yes i can understand that but ok this is uncharted no one really knows but those places can open also with track and trace with tests.

I can also understand the people being sick of masks, I am sick of them but try wearing one in a boiling hot unit for 12 hours, for me at least that will continue in all health settings for some time years in fact.

you are asking the people to be cautious use common sense the same as we asked not to smash up Leicester square not to be racist (i know that was a small minority) lead by a government who have not got a clue when local mayors are ignoring what the PM says

yes we should concentrate on the positive I agree but people aren't like that nor is the press as it won't sell papers

but you're talking about this

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/weekly-national-flu-and-covid-19-surveillance-reports-published

the big flu debate queue headlines "killer flu kills more than covid"

and it will, because last year we had the lowest flu infections because we were in lockdown the strains in other countries were not circulating so we had no idea what flu strain to vaccinate against so people are saying there is more flu now "oh no more people have flu the hospitals are getting fuller" correct so a virus that causes flu, the method of transmitting said virus is the same as covid 19 what do we do, abandon all possible ways of protection from flu and covid and have a freedom day so we can then all pass flu or covid to each other

quoting flu is on the increase but not giving an indication on how to stop or slow the increase by the papers and social media is what, a tit for tat argument spreading more fear to the vulnerable rather than saying we can prevent this by doing this and this

See i would argue that the flu being non existent' last year is part of a different discussion that saw many different types of diseases / illnesses and conditions dissapear or greatly reduce within the data that was never really explained other than 'restrictions'. It is all in the data, this time last year other respiratory conditons dropped by hundreds each week. Fast forward 12 months and they are on the rise, but truthfully, they aren't, they are returning to normal because covid is not being attached to the same patients in anywhere near the same level. To some extent, i would argue that Covid has overridden many other things, to the extent of the 'tested postive within 28 days' being the measure over direct result in the data. It kinda ties into what i was saying, focusing on what we are told so to some extent, other things stop being as important. Especially over the last 15 months, a cough is never just a cough anymore, even when it is.

So if the flu will kill more than covid, then that should in theory provoke a reaction similar to covid in the country. You cannot lock a country down for one virus and then not do so for potentially now a more dangerous one, would be literally hypocritical to do so with the aim being to protect lives. In that scenario, would they restrict the country in the name of the flu or would they still peddle the covid story as a means to doing that?

But the bottom line is that before march last year, we never locked down for the flu, didn't wear masks for the flu, didn't even have headline news every single day for it. It was just a part of life, the same way covid will be, or the common cold, or a whole host of viruses. We vaccinate, we medicate and we use common sense to avoid people who are sick. Why does all of this have to change? The common sense was always there before, why has it suddenly been announced to be gone?

I see things differently and re-enforcing the fear of covid even now is potentially dangerous. The vaccine protects against covid and we have put it into 30 million arms fully, starting with the ones who need it most downwards. We have protected the ones who need protecting, and now focusing on the ones who don't need anywhere near as much protection, in the same way as the flu. We are in the end game and yet it still gets presented as the half time show.

This is where masks come in, because if they don't go on monday, they can never go. Because the minute you finish vaccinations, its then the flu, then the winter, then a new strain of covid that means all the vunerable need protecting first with booster jabs and the cycle continues. You cannot honestly pick a point now and say masks are no longer needed because that point will never come. the test numbers will never change, even if vaccinations are done, people will still test positive.
