Yes, use your nail to hold the coil in place and pull the wick through, twist the wick if need be.
Does this look better? It's still a very muted flavour though

Another little tip when making a spaced round wire is imho, after you’ve spaced it with your finger nail, take it off, flip it, and place it back on the Coilmaster. Then push the end back down the rod. I find it lets me get tighter spacing. And always dry fire, at least to remove the oils from the coil, and make sure it’s firing from the middle.Yes, use your nail to hold the coil in place and pull the wick through, twist the wick if need be.

When using round wire for tc, I also pay close attention to the results on Steam Engine. It not only gives you a reliable estimate of the ohms your coil will have, but also gives heating capacity (how long it takes the coil to heat up and cool down), and heat flux (which gives a gives a good indication of the desired voltage/wattage). @SimonL , if you haven’t used it, here’s the link:

The heat flux is a great tool for me; I like a cooler vape and by adjusting the voltage you can see the change in color on the left. If you look farther down the webpage, there’s a description of how it works.Thank you for the great advice. I do use Steam Engine plus a vape coil app and they tend to pretty much agree on the coil resistance.
How do you interpret the heat flux figure to determine the voltage and wattage for the coil?
I may have spoken too soo as the flavour is getting better so perhaps the coil and cotton needed to settle for the first few draws. It is definitely better than my last attempt although at 0.65 Ohms I'm using 55W and 275C which seems to be higher than I've seen others say they use. I think I read somewhere that the coil resistance isn't so important in TC mode
The term is resistive sensitivity, you need enough coil for it to sense a resistance change. So a couple of extra loops is better but no need to go nuts, I vape mostly MTL so the temperatures I do is totally different, but for example NiFe30 can be down to 0.19 ohms or so, whereas SS is up around 0.9. In each case you're looking at 8-9 wraps. Resistance number itself is kinda irrelevant. As is Wattage, all it does is punt you up to the temp quicker or slower.
