What's new

Vape Tax.. we all knew it was coming

You're right. Whoops. :)

"For their own use" is different to saying they are intending to sell on what they make. Once you've bought the ingredients how do they think they can police what people do with it in their own homes?

“For their own use” is directly taken from the Gov consultation document.

The wording of the question is not about selling , it's about own use, so is applicable. In theory someone with authority could knock at your door and demand to see your stash/ set up and charge you the relevant duty. I dont see how they would ever have the manpower to do such a thing on a wide scale but they could make examples of certain individuals.

I know. The question made no mention of people selling on the juice they make but the question was asking if home made juice for personal use should be covered by the new law.

Absolutely. I was responding to the fact that people answered that question by talking about starting their own little home business knocking up DIY juices.

i mixed up a couple of 60mls of concentrates that are six years past their sell by date. seems fine, just the same as i remember it :)
Apart from extracts most concentrates are made from chemical compounds which mimic natural flavours so I would argue that the use by date is notional.

Alcohol has always been heavily taxed but you have always been able to buy 40 pint home brew beer kits, or even home distillation jobbies and flavours of whisky, rum, gin etc.

Theoretically you should be able to continue to buy flavour concentrates. What concerns me is if they have to be distanced from vape product and cannot mention suitable for vaping - or even worse have to state not suitable for vaping on the packaging to avoidbeing taxed as vape product how would any newbie DIYer know which are safe to inhale and which could contain oils which are good to eat but dangerous to inhale. I can buy a shitload of food flavourings from Tesco, but I'd not be confident enough to vape them.

I know I'm going a bit off topic here, but you know some people are bound to try it.

It’ll save me a fortune on dog food if I’m getting three little Percy’s with their clipboards turn up for their bi monthly inspection of my strawberry surprise stash.

😬

this is just normal human behaviour. four or five years ago a mate of mine at work was making his own eliquid with vanilla essence he was buying from morrisons.

The industry have been asking for a licensing scheme for years, which would put a stop to any sales outside a specialised and licensed vape shop!
Keep dreaming.
And then we get back to the danger of anyone getting flavouring that is not suitable for vaping, and hazardous...

This happened after TPD, people were making juice with orange food flavouring from Sainsburys ect.

Almost certain to happen at some point.

No, this is to do with transactions between different businesses within the supply chain. I'm not a tax lawyer but I've had enough dealings with HMRC in the past to have a bit of an insight into how their rules work.

so if you buy pg and vg from a chemical wholesaler, and flavour concentrates from a cupcake or kitchen essence business then all is well, aye?
