Vape Tax.. we all knew it was coming

Yes - agree, but the article was implying that vaping carries its own health risks - so what are these risks??

That's not fully known yet which is why they're doing research to discover any long term dangers.
Vegetable glycerine and propylene glycol are harmless substances for us to ingest. But turn into vapour and inhale into our lungs? That could be another story but can potentially cause breathing problems for some. A small proportion of liquids also apparently contain chemicals that are linked to an increased risk of cancer.

Because we haven't been vaping for as long as we have been smoking, less is known about the potential dangers but ongoing research is trying to find that out.
The official stance though is that vaping is 95% less harmful than smoking.

Thanks for your reply - as you state - further research is required for a definitive answer, but initial findings are that health risks are minimal.
However, in the referenced article, by stating vaping carries its own health risks - it implied that these are known and recognised risks - which to my mind is misleading.

I see what you mean. We do know about some of the risks, ie short-term risks mainly associated with nicotine.
We don't know much about the long-term risks though.
Here is what the NHS say about vaping and the myths surrounding it.

As I understand it, there has actually been a reasonable amount of research, and while we can't say categorically that there is NO risk, all indications are that the risks are minimal if any, and that what risks there are (nicotine impact on oral health for example) are orders of magnitude less than the same risks from smoking. So it doesn't "carry it's own health risks" AFAIK.

It is also misleading (and frankly lazy) to say "further research needed". More research never does harm, but you get to a point where you have sufficient evidence to arrive at a reasonable conclusion. Do ALL oranges contain vitamin C? More research needed... we haven't tested every single orange... but it seems reasonable to assume that they do.

Our lungs are designed (maybe the wrong word) to intake air only so anything other than air can't be harmless but as we are all addicts to some degree we will continually try to convince ourselves that vaping is harmless or almost harmless. So far it seems to be much less harmful than smoking so wick yer coil and have a toot while it's still affordable.

So what are the short term risks of nicotine? As people have been smoking for a very long time it strikes me we know it isn't the problem certain people wish to say it is.

Vaping hasn't been around long enough to ascertain what the long term effects of it are so in the meantime it is unscientific to speculate on them and use that to regulate it.

Reading the comments and they won’t ban shortfills if you read the constitution paper it asks that question quite plainly

in regards to making it is very easy to break the whole vaping system

1. ban sales of nicotine
Or
2 . Make nicotine prescription only
Or
tax nicotine at say 30% duty or above

the light heart approach the hands off but the government is over

the Monarch has decreed a law to his parliament saying vaping is to be restricted or banned along with a tobacco control in some way shape or form that will happen

unless your a dooms day prep type of person the only chance to reduce the damage is to fill the consultation form fully in again and again but apart from here no one is talking about it

That sounds like someone has fallen hook line and sinker for the bollocks spouted by the likes of the WHO on nicotine and in no way would help with the government's 2030 smokefree target.

You can fill in as many forms as you like but unfortunately we no longer live in a democracy but what seems to be becoming a dictatorship made feasible by the current government to satisfy the super rich who control everything in this country.
