Vape Tax.. we all knew it was coming

Smokefree is complete bullshit anyway. I know people who spend £300 a week on weed. I don't think they've invented a smoke free version of that yet. :)

It is also misleading (and frankly lazy) to say "further research needed". More research never does harm, but you get to a point where you have sufficient evidence to arrive at a reasonable conclusion. Do ALL oranges contain vitamin C? More research needed... we haven't tested every single orange... but it seems reasonable to assume that they do.

I totally disagree with that. We haven't yet done enough research to arrive at a reasonable conclusion as to what the inhalation of VG, PG and the flavour concentrates does to us in the long term. We all know what nicotine and cigarettes do to us as it's been around for decades.
Inhaling the ingredients of eliquids has been happening for a fraction of that and as testing technology gets more advanced and as people inhale these things for longer periods it only makes sense to continue testing.
The studies are ongoing because there's a need for these studies to happen.

The professor of public health at the University of Edingburgh says this:

"E-cigarettes are a relatively new product. For this reason, there isn’t enough research into long-term use, or into their effects in people who have never smoked.

“In people who vape, the vast majority are smokers or ex-smokers. So unpicking the relationship between those two risks is really tough”. “Definitive answers about safety may still take many years to identify”.

In short, there’s a lot more to learn."

We also don't know about a potential increased risk of people who both smoke and vape. Ongoing research will give us these answers.

Short term risks of nicotine:

-Shortness of breath
-Reduction in sense of taste and smell
-Fatigue and decrease in energy
-Blood pressure changes
-Increase in heart rate
-Blood vessel constriction

These are just from a quick Google search.

I wonder why only short term but anyway that reads a bit like the warnings on any medication you're prescribed. My experience of vaping for the last 8 years is a no to all of those which is more than I can say for the decades I spent smoking.

Worryingly this is one of the questions on the consultation:

To be fair these are the physiological responses to nicotine whether someone reasonably believes that they have experienced it or not.
Research has shown that these things do happen to people who "use" nicotine.
I think by short term, it means these things happen from a short term basis, not that they're limited to a short term. Ie it's not a case of they don't stop happening if you continue long term. It's just that they start short term.

Are ex-smokers really worrying about the dangers in vaping? FFS.
