So all I need is a coil of 30 gauge wire & I'm safe to experiment? Is it Kanthal I need or something else?Excellent. I just wanted to make sure you were safe!

Kanthal is a good place to start for this, but I do think you will have a problem if the coils need to be built with welded NR/R/NR wire as it will taste foul when the legs heat up.So all I need is a coil of 30 gauge wire & I'm safe to experiment? Is it Kanthal I need or something else?
OK. I'm sold on the idea of welded wires to protect the rubber plug. They seem cheap enough!Kanthal is a good place to start for this, but I do think you will have a problem if the coils need to be built with welded NR/R/NR wire as it will taste foul when the legs heat up.
You might be better off buying these - though most tend to be nichrome rather than kanthal, it's fine:

Hang on. I've found some on eBay. £4.99 for 100. Either 2.5 or 1.5ohm. For MTL, which would you choose? Which would last longer before failing?Kanthal is a good place to start for this, but I do think you will have a problem if the coils need to be built with welded NR/R/NR wire as it will taste foul when the legs heat up.

Stealthvape used to do them but only have the REALLY high ohm ones left. You could try this guy on Ebay ... not easy in the UK as not many do this now.OK. I'm sold on the idea of welded wires to protect the rubber plug. They seem cheap enough!
Do you know of a UK site that sell these & have a range of different gauge wires? I'm happy enough with 1.8 ohm but NatureVape always came out at 2.1 ohms +.
That's the one I was looking at. He also does 1.8 ohm too. I'm going to go for it. I've also worked out that the abbreviation stand for non resistance - resistance - non resistance!Stealthvape used to do them but only have the REALLY high ohm ones left. LOL!! yep - I'd go for the 1.8 ohm, or if you can't get that probably 1.5 ohms. I tend to build to around 1.4/1.5 these days. Good luck, let me know how you get on?That's the one I was looking at. Thanks again for all your help Crewella. I owe you one!
The wires arrived this morning & I've made 3 successful coils so far, all between 1.83 & 1.86 ohms for the 1.8 ohm stated resistance. 3 failures due to poor technique, but practice makes perfect.LOL!! yep - I'd go for the 1.8 ohm, or if you can't get that probably 1.5 ohms. Don’t worry about messing up that’s all part of the fun and you sometimes mess up in a good way and come up with something you like although not planned...wire is so cheap you can experiment the bejesus out of things...that’s the fun bit..The wires arrived this morning & I've made 3 successful coils so far, all between 1.83 & 1.86 ohms for the 1.8 ohm stated resistance. 3 failures due to poor technique, but practice makes perfect.
Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
