What's new

Got fat?

Gym's going to shit

Think it's bench pressing that giving me shoulder gyp, over pushing it & extending my shoulder forward when it's supposed to be tucked back into the bench

Felt something else go when dead lifting on Thursday, just below the shoulder blade this one, so bench & DL are out for now

I've put on a few pounds, I did increase my calories by a couple of hundred per day as I was feeling wiped out, pretty sure most of it is in my belly so I'm going to reign that in. England beers don't help at all. Had maybe 6 or 7 on Saturday night, felt crap all yesterday & just ate junk trying to feel better. I really can't drink anymore & didn't really drink at all during lockdown

Physio later this morning. The NHS are giving me a phone call the end of August! It was last October I first called them up with problems

Hope you finally find some sort of solution mate.

I've found some physio style stretches to help with rounded shoulders so going to try those & avoid what I think caused it, see if I get anywhere with those

The sports physio went over everything earlier & nothing was too badly knotted up, I've got a PT session at her studio booked tomorrow for posture & form checks

I've added another half stone over the pandemic due to inactivity.....i'm now sporting a 6 month pregnant look!

Oh, that PT physio check was awful!!! She slated everything I did & basically said my lower back & core were weak (fair enough) and sign up with her to strengthen them, no thanks

So I've been working on them myself the last couple of weeks

Then, I can't remember were I went on about this but my main two problems are my right hip & right shoulder

The right hip gave me a duck foot, had it for years, no one would ever of noticed it but I did. I was watching Brad & Bob (two physio guys) on Youtube & they said something about people with broken legs/ ankles /feet needed rehab to get their balance back in that foot. I broke my right foot about 12 years ago so tried it and my balance was non existent but fine on my left foot. 12 hours later, my duck foot was fixed. I was ecstatic

Now the shoulder, was getting no where with it (which is why I was watching Brad & Bob) but I've found out, right, and this will sound weird, that if I foam roll my legs, it clears the pain in my rhomboid/trapezeus. If I feel the pain coming on, quick foam roll of my right leg and it clears it up. This shoulder is still borked but I'm working on a couple of things with it that may take some time

I seemed to have timed my early to mid-life fitness crisis quite well.

2018... age 34, worst shape of my life. Sit down, long hours job and little to no activity.

I saw a CrossFit documentary/promo on Netflix which I guess did its main job. I decided to start doing it myself and loved it. I don't think its for everyone, quite culty really! For me, it took away the focus on numbers on the scale and even the dreaded mirror body assessment. Exercise was fun and my goals became more performance orientated than about how I looked. I wanted to be good at CrossFit and a secondary but most welcome side-effect was that I would look, feel and be healthier. Quite quickly I went from being a bit of a state to winning my lads dad's race at school against some younger, meaner and leaner opposition!

2019...
Work changed. My shifts became quite unpredictable and it was difficult to get to the CrossFit classes I wanted to. I still had plenty of free time but it always conspired against me and the CrossFit programming. At this point I was loving Olympic lifting and less of the gymnastics, there's something about throwing around 'heavy' weights.

Summer 2019 I decided that a rack and barbell in the garage would let me do the exercise I enjoyed on my own rota. I kitted out the garage with rubber flooring, a bargain second hand rack and a lovely set of bumper plates. I quit CrossFit and spent 4-days a week in the new dungeon. Hot or cold, hoodie or underpants, I look forward to the little bits of me time in the garage. There's never an excuse good enough that I can't get myself an appointment at Tom's gym.

As we all know too well, early 2020 saw the pandemic hit and anything home exercise related went up in price as if made from solid gold and sculpted by Michelangelo. Lucky I had what I needed as there is no way I could afford what I have at the rate it was going.

I do miss the banter, the chats and the high fives you get from classes. But I love the flexibility, the peace, the fact I can have a cheeky little vape between sets.

All in all, mine is not a success or a failure story really. Still quite fat, pretty sure that needs fixing in the kitchen. I've started making little permanent changes that I'll probably never see a rapid improvement from but hopefully I'll win the long game.

But for now, I'm happy and healthy and strong :)

Over one and a half stone down now, not bad considering I’ve had a three week period of nothing but beers every night, fry-ups and fat meals for tea.

Soon be back on at that rate lol
Nah, I was right back on the diet and footy/cycling once I got home again.

Still have one night a week on beer and shit food - but I shifted just under half a stone last week. If I had to stick to the diet full time that’d be the end of the weight loss as I’d give up in the end.

Once I’m down to my fighting weight I’ll be able to bin a bit of the lettuce and have potatoes again.

Dropped a stone and 2 pants sizes in like 2 weeks.

Starvation diets ftw, lol
