What's new

Matt Hancock

Is it the government's fault if they said something was already on its way when it wasn't?

Yes
I have a sneaking suspicion we're gonna disagree on this.

If they KNEW the shipment wasn't coming but told the public it was then I'll agree, it's wrong and deceitful and there should be consequences.

However...

How long does an emergency shipment take to arrive from Turkey? Few hours maybe? If the government were told it was coming and they then repeated that to the public and problems then arose because of a lack of proper export papers by the sender, I have no problem with that. It makes no sense to me, if they knew, why they wouldn't have just said it's coming Monday instead of Sunday. The press are constantly pushing for up to date, latest info. With a desperate ppe shortage I can quite easily see the delivery info being given out prematurely. Premature because problems can arise at any time. But are they really expected in the current climate to wait until the delivery has landed in the UK before saying it's coming? Unless someone can show that the public was intentionally misled then, in my opinion, no. I don't think it's a sacking offence to say something is on its way when an order has been placed and a delivery is expected.

So for me it boils down to whether or not we were intentionally misled. I haven't seen anything to show that yet. But I'm all ears if someone wants to post it.

Did anyone see Matt Hancock on the channel 4 news last night?

He was asked if the death of 100 NHS frontline workers was too many. His response was something along the lines of we do not know where they contracted covid 19 but that's the job they sign up to do.

Aye he was pretty bad eh? Most of his answers were awful.

Did you see sturgeon on it the other night? If not you should see if it’s on the player. It answered the question we were wondering about the other day, if she could have diverged from the u.k. plan or not. Don’t think she did very well tbh, came across pretty bad. Seemed unprepared for a lot of the questions. Her broadband connection is shite as well.

Naw I missed it and I usually watch the channel 4 news as well. What was her response? Didn't want to confuse the overall UK message and she would listen to the experts?

And yes, it was pretty awful. There's only one response to the death of 100 health care workers and that's yes, even one death is one too many. Don't sit there and tell me that nhs workers should expect to die.

It was guru murphy interviewing and he kept pressing her on whether her response, the same as u.k. govt’s, was right. He brought up late lockdown, stopping widespread testing, making comparisons with ireland.

So the four u.k. countries had some meetings early on and they all agreed to the response, it seems.

You can tell when an interviewer puts her in that situation and she’s pushed to being dishonest because she has a very particular facial expression and she starts obsessively blinking.

What was she being dishonest about? That she believed her response was right?
