What's new

Third time of trying to vape and get rid of the smokes

I'm quite a new vaper and can totally see where you are coming from.

I managed to quit the stinkies about 2 weeks ago (although I totally caved and had 3 stinkies at work yesterday) I think that you need to ask yourself whats missing and take it from there. Also I tend to vape way more than I smoke, instead of maybe having a stinkie waiting an hour or so then having another it's more like 2 or 3 puffs then 10 minutes later having 2 or 3 more. I did this for 3 days when I was off work to help get over the worst of the cravings then just started using the e-cig at work. The trick for me is not to wait til I'm totally jonesing because at that point only a fag will do but to just gradually puff away everytime you even think of a cig.

Even though I'm new I already know battery makes a difference. I have 2, I bought a starter from my local shop and once I knew I liked vaping bought a back up cheapie one from ebay for about £4. The cheapie is awful- they look the exact same but when I use the ebay one I just can't get a proper puff- it's like smoking a rollie that's been rolled too tight so I think that you will most likely get on better with a better battery.

Good luck.

It's all good Nina71 , so give yourself a pat on the back for what you have achieved so far. Dual fuelling isn't a failure in any shape or form. After all, a small victory is still a victory and while you are vaping you are not smoking, even if that is only for a few periods of time per day.
Even if you give in to all of your ciggy cravings I bet you still smoke less cigarettes than you did without using vaping as a back up.
I am a classic example of a hardcore smoker that switched to vaping and I did it the easy way, by cutting back on the easy ciggies, bit by bit. The 1st couple of smokes in the morning were "important" to me, so I never made any attempts to cut them out. The same went with my "after dinner" fags.
It will probably take as long as it takes, but, given time, a couple of hours without a ciggie, will, I'm sure, turn into three hours without, then four, etc etc.
If that takes 3 mnths or three years, it's no big deal.

I dual fuelled for around 6 months I also had a couple of failed attempts at quiting smoking previously with earlier versions of e cigs .

I found it easier to stop smoking at home and continued to smoke whilst at work . The fact smoking before work and during my breaks was such a ingrained habit was hard to change and the mental angle of having to go in to work for 3 hours at a time with out having had a cigarette hard to commit to .

I ended up only having a cigarette in the morning and one last thing at night and vaping the rest of the day . when I eventually decided to quit totally I was hammering manabush liquid in a dripper for about 3 weeks .

I think the reason I failed the first couple of times was I was using e cigs as more of a novelty and wasn't convinced in my own mind I wanted to actually stop smoking . This time around I had other motivations had actually decided I wanted to stop smoking forever .

I'd say find yourself a good setup that produces good vapour and take it at your own speed . Don't put loads of pressure on yourself the more your mentally forcing yourself in to quitting the more difficult your making it for yourself .

Stop beating yourself up for having stinky cravings!!!

I am a new user so don't claim to know everything about vaping - infact - the more I read the less I know!

I started back in January with a view to cutting down on stinkies. I did set myself targets but not a timeline. My first target was to make a pack of stinkies last 2 days. I didn't achieve that instantly but did manage it by the end of the first week. My next target was to make a pack last 3 days. Never managed that one though:18:

I had my last ciggie at 6.30am on the 7th Feb and as I had finished a pack I decided to see how long I could go before I opened a new pack. Here I am 43 days later and still not opened that new pack. I do still have stinkies in my wardrobe which are leftovers from duty free shopping - about 18 sleeves to be honest and I am not tempted to go and get one out. I had 3 packs left over in a sleeve and have now given them away to a friend who is struggling. To have a stinkie would mean opening a new sleeve and that would mean I had 9 unopened packs in the wardrobe and that would be too much temptation so that is something that is also stopping me from doing it.

I wont say it has been easy but it has been much easier than it would have been if I had gone 'cold turkey'. Only this morning I could have ripped someones arm off to get at a stinkie but several puffs on my vapestick and that all wore off.

It is all a mind game that you play with yourself. I am such an arsey cow that if I tell myself I cannot do something I will say 'F*** you lady'!:18: so don't make hard and fast rules. Just keep your mindset positive and think about the stinkies you don't have and you will find yourself being easier on yourself.

I would say to get the best equipment you can afford then add a bit on top to make sure. My 'stick' of choice is a Jacvapour Series E Aero Tank starter kit with spare battery. Looks expensive to start with but if you take into consideration how much 6 packs of ciggies would cost there is not much difference in price and the savings a good vape can give you is immense.

The batteries last me for a full day but I make sure I have 2 fully charged batteries before I leave the house and a bottle of vape juice of choice with me!

Juice - I cannot get on with tobacco flavoured ones at all - they just dont do it for me. I have fruit flavoured ones and spearmint which I very much enjoy. Lemon or pineapple give good flavour for me and as long as I am enjoying it I can keep going. I do have several bottles of juice that I either cannot taste or cannot stand so mistakes have been made along the way - I have even thrown some out as they are just too disgusting to trade with my vape colleagues :18:

I have just bought 2 cheapies for taking on holiday with me. I am not prepared to get sand in my good kit. As the cheapies are new I am testing them this weekend to make sure they will last me the day on the beach. I have been vaping with them exclusively and the difference in 'vape experience' is shocking to say the least. It is not as good as my beloved Jac (my new bestie). You need to make sure what you have is hitting the spot for you. You don't have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince if you prepare yourself to shell out some of your hard earned in the first place.

BTW - I am a 62 year old who smoked 30+ a day for more years than I care to remember so it can be done if you give yourself a break ;)

Good luck Nina - its can be a hard journey if you want to make it so. Remember - its all about the ones you don't have. :14:

Thanks a lot, this is very helpful :)

You are right in this, I am putting a lot of pressure on myself. Keep telling myself that this time I will manage.

Stick in there Nina.

I started ecigs around 3 or 4 years ago (I think). I managed to cut out ciggies for 30 to 35 days (and didn't miss them at all) in the first year then gave up on ecigs after a stinking cold and went back to real cigarettes.

I've been back to vaping for around a year and while I haven't quit smoking. I've cut down from around 40 ciggies a day to anything between 5 or 10 a day. In my eyes, that's a victory. Some days I'll smoke more, some days I'll smoke less.. I just take it for what it is and let "nature run it's course".

The most bizarre thing about my smoking is that anytime I drink alcohol now, I have to vape, I detest real cigarettes when drinking..previously that was when I smoked the most.. go figure. Eventually your brain will stop tricking you into thinking you need real cigarettes in certain scenarios.

When the time is right for you to quit ciggies totally... it'll just happen. The worst thing you can do is put pressure on yourself.

The start is the toughest and the little steps start turning into bigger steps. Make sure not to skimp on the equipment and get a high pg high nic juice. I also suggest to get green tea to detox. Best of success in kicking an old habit to the curb.

Thank you all for such helpful and friendly advice, it was much needed !
I have looked into some devices and the Istick seems for me perhaps a good fit. I have seen there different varieties ranging from fairly cheap to more expensive. I am not totally familiar with the differences as I only ever used an ego but would this be a good start ? Eleaf iStick 20W 2200mAh VV Device

Hello Nina, my advice for what it's worth, if you can afford the 50w istick get that one, better battery life and also a bit more future proof than the 20w. If the 20w is all you can afford it's not the end of the world, it will still be a lot better than what your using at the moment, just one other thing, get a decent tank, something like a mini nautilus or subtank mini, will knock the one's you're currently using into a cocked hat, best of luck Glen

It would be a step in the right direction for sure, though like glen h suggests it might be worth going a step further for a bit of future proofing if you can stretch to it. If you think the 50W version would be too big for you the 30W version is the same size as the 20W but has a few features much improved for just a little more money. The board does step down voltage a little better but the best improvement is a sprung centre pin, the bit in the middle where your atty attaches, and better threads.
