Tobacco companies request postponement of tpd

It's only an extension to the deadline, if ok'd it just means an extra 6 months. It will make no real difference

It would in terms of preparation actually .. for some small businesses it could be the difference between not being able to be compliant and earning enough money ti get compliant

Yeah, that's fair enough. I fully understand that and in that sense I hope they get it. Long term though.....

Email from the MHRA:
Clarification from the MHRA regarding the consultation on proposed fees for notification

Dear all,

Thank you for responses so far to our consultation exercise on the proposed fees for notification of e-cigarettes.
We have had a number of requests for clarification, most of which fall into the following three broad themes below.
We have provided clarification on these issues which we hope you will find helpful.
Please also remember that the consultation exercise closes on Friday 29 January.
Many thanks,

Matthew.

1. Who needs to submit a notification? The requirement to notify e-cigarettes and refill containers applies to ‘producers’. A producer is anyone who manufactures or imports or re-brands any of the products covered by the regulations. We are looking to implement the TPD is a pragmatic way so that importers do not need to submit a duplicate notification if the manufacturer or re-brander has already submitted a notification.

2. What about flavour and strength variants? We expect that each individual product will require a separate notification. This would include each flavour and strength variant.

3. Do retailers need to submit notifications? Retailers do not need to submit notifications unless they also qualify as a ‘producer’, for example by mixing their own e-liquids (refill containers).

Actually .. just read this elsewhere :

TPD could be delayed by 6 months
BAT, JTI, Philip Morris Ask For 6-Month Extension To Comply With Tobacco Directive

British American Tobacco (BAT), Japan Tobacco International (JTI) and Philip Morris asked for a six-month
postponement of the May 20 deadline to comply with the new provisions of the Tobacco Products Directive,
saying the changes trigger important investments in equipment and materials.

More as I can dig it out...

This follows on from a web meeting last Thursday between EU officials in Bruxelles and various stakeholders
all trying to get information, never mind sense, out of the EU cronies.

John.

Is it just me that finds this fuckin hilarious ?
The tobacco companies 'TPD compliant' devices clearly ain't compliant (investment my arse !) while the very kit they wanted stopped stays mostly unaffected. :D
