You cant accurately. Mods with Dna chips have a program called escribe which you can monitor performance in real time. You can do a cotton burn test (wick coil with no juice and dry burn at say 420f should leave no scorch mark if functioning well) but its not overly conclusive

Hi ej2_sir, u fortunately I dont have a dna200 mod, anyway, what I wanted to do was test the TC mode on the smok alien.
I have a 28g SS316L buil on there at the moment. Only built it today, actually my first coil build! Spaced it out a bit too... anyway 11 wrap dual coil hitting 0.623 ohms. (Really wanted ribbon wire 0.5 x 0.1 but all my local b&m store had was 28g round so just ordered some online!)
Back to the TC on the alien, I think its ok. At the mo I've got it set at 240,C and 50w. Its getting to temp then cutting off and getting to temp again. I haven't noticed any major temp fluctuations so far. Takes less than 2seconds to reach temp and then cuts off (or reduces power) for about 1 second then ok.
As @mrnumpty thinks though, I dont think it gets to temp then stays there i.e. it does fluctuate a little. I think what happens is that it cuts power, then lets the coil cool and its back on the power. But I must say (subjective as it is) I haven't noticed that it gets hotter than when it reached initial temp. It does cool a little when temp protection kicks in but on the next ramp up I don't think it gets hotter.
I will keep experimenting over the next week or so.

Different manufactures tend to have differences in the way tc is applied. I have no experience with Smok Tc but it sounds like your doing ok. The Dna I have is ultra smooth when hitting temp where as my other mods (joyetech etc) tend to "rattlesnake" quite a bit round temp protect as they constantly cut and reapply power. If your getting good consistant flavour and no dry hits Id say your set!

Not got any dry hits yet... my tank is full (well half full now) and vaping a goodun!
Next test... dry hit test, how would I go about doing that?
Also... is there any dna200 mods out there that are about the same size as the smok alien? Its actually quite small for a twin 18650 mod which I like?
