What's new

Unravelling the TPD, A vapers attempt to understand article 20.

Funnily enough they mentioned this in the video, apparently the rules were originally written with the idea that all e-cigarettes were just those plastic disposable fake-fags! They then had to go back and change things to match reality, which is why some of the rules seem a bit... odd...

It's not surprising.. surely it seems quite a strong case to overturn this until they know fully what the bloody hell they are on about and what the actual market is...

So frustrating...

I'm currently struggling with a few of my most popular lines of ventilation products because of a revision being made to compliance that was cemented on the 20th of November and enforced as of the 2nd of January relating to energy efficiency...

I won't go into the fine details of it but basically it is the work of lobbyists for a certain manufacturer that has certain connections to the people that make the rules.

Unsurprisingly all of said manufacturers products are magically compliant with all of the restrictions that no one else knew about until the 20th November...

Smacks a bit of a similar thing going on here to me...

In part 6 Section 36 it states…

36.— (1) No person may produce or supply an electronic cigarette or a refill container which contains a
nicotine-containing liquid unless it complies with paragraphs (2) to (11).
(2) The nicotine-containing liquid must be in—
(a) a dedicated refill container not exceeding a volume of 10 millilitres;
(b) a disposable electronic cigarette; or
(c) a single use cartridge where the cartridge or tank does not exceed a volume of 2 millilitres.

This is the only bit I can see in the regs that specifies sizes or volumes for tanks...
Reading between the lines here, excuse me.

So, the nic MUST be in a 10mL refill bottle OR a disposable e-cig OR a single use cartridge.

As tanks are neither disposable nor single use, are they allowed at all?

Apologies if this has been covered / I am stupid.

According to Dave, he believes the 2ml limit will apply to all tanks and you will have to buy spare parts than will increase the size of the tank.
In short all tanks will be afected but there will be work arounds.

Unless I have the maths wrong the equivalent of 250ml of 72mg nic base at 20mg in a 10ml bottle is 90 bottles. If nic base does have to be sold in a 10ml bottle that's an awful lot of plastic going in the bin and just how much would 90 x 10ml 20mg nic bottles cost? A lot more than £16.99 (the current Darkstar price for 250ml 72mg).

With regard to flavour concentrates I don't know if the UK Government are that bothered, although I read that if zero nic juices have to be tested then any flavours advertised for vaping would have to be tested as well? I think the EU are waiting to see what loopholes appear in article 20, they have certainly underestimated the DIY/hobby side of vaping. Along with their pharma mates and other ban vaping obsessed member states they will draft (behind closed doors again) another raft of rancid legislation to try to get people back on the fags and champix.

Asked and answered, many thanks

Again with the stupid.. But how would you convert them? Is there a vid showing this?
There will be a kit or it could even be part of the packaging as we have now with a an extension piece and taller glass. Will be easy and take 60 secs.

Zero nic juices and concentrates are not affected by the TPD.
