Hey guys,

I've just tried re-wicking my R-tank, and getting some very bad results.

Using the same coil I used in my vivi nova (Kanthal-A 32AWG). And just grabbed some 3mm silica rope from VaporBase.

The taste is chemical. Not sure how to describe it, but definitely not the flavour of the eliquid.

Any ideas on what to try? I've tried boiling the silica for 10 minutes or so, the taste has become a bit better, but not by much. The coil is the same as I've used for a while, so don't think it's that.

Many thanks!

Out of interest, did you burn the Kanthal before you wound it on your wick? I'm going to do some wicking, when I get the courage (first time's always the worst ;)) and I saw a video where the type said that if you burn it first it loses it's chemical taste. If you did and it's till metallic tasting, think I'll buy some Nickel Chrome instead.:indecisiveness:

Turns out it was indeed the Wick. Tried another wick and it was gorgeous. I don't flame my coil, but I do dry burn it a couple of times (until the coil glows red). Absolutely gorgeous now.

Nothing a dry burn won't fix Starlyte :). I personally prefer kanthal!

Glad to know my Kanthal's Ok, as where I live anything takes twice as long in the post, an the town's an oversized village:cheerful:, just got to get down to the actual work now. Thanks for calming my worried brow :64:

Just please don't do what I did. A "dry burn" does not mean "freshly re-wicked, press the power button". It means "freshly wick, then put a few drops of eliquid on the wick itself THEN press the power button".

Burnt a bloody wick due to my noobness. Tell you though, R-Tank is SOOOO much easier than the Vivi Nova.

Rewicking is a bit worrying at first. Just make sure you have a multimeter and check everything (including check your off-set on the multimeter). No such thing as checking too many times if you ask me. :P

Also, if you're finding it difficult to coil, get yourself a machine screw (0.5mm less than your wick (e.g. 2mm wick, 1.5mm machine screw)), as they have really small threads you can coil around, and just slip your wick in there (there really is no way to say that without sounding dirty is there?).

Hi, might be a daft question but where do l put the multimeter probes to get a decent reading, l've tried and tried and on pre built heads and l can't get it to read what it's supposed to :moody:

One on the centre post and one on the outer housing should give you a decent enough ohm reading

Edit: And remember that even bought atomiser heads etc can have wildly differing resistances. I would imagine that when they are made, resistance isn't even taken into account as such, just a standard 6 winds or whatever.

I'm stating the obvious here, but might as well re-iterate it:

Make sure if you don't have an auto range multimeter to check the offset and compensate for it! Mine for example (A cheapy £5 one) is off by 1.6 ohm.
