Mask exemptions

Fear is in the eye of the beholder, I have one of these t-shirts somewhere.

Well, granted, n for u guys its probably to the point if a lotta other ppl are wearing masks, than i mean, u had 22 new infections...the likelyhood is almost nil...but if u already have breathing problems it probably wouldnt b pleasant if u caught it

If u were headed to florida tho, u should probably get one of those white suits with the hoodie, lol

Just did the math, they are having 1 new case every 6 seconds.
Like 10 new ppl were infected in the time it took me to do the math

I have mate for years.

Never fancied Florida, I liked California (north & south) Virginia, and Texas though.

Got one mate, had it for years, complete with boots, plus a rubber canister micro particulate mask.

213 ppl dies in britain every day from smoking.

Its all relative

Exactly.
On average around 15,000 people die from standard flue every year.

But unchecked, they reckoned half a million could have died, worse case scenario. Blows your standard flu and smoking stats out of the water.

Very true mate, regarding the half a million figure.
But that was an estimate for the whole of the world.

My comparison over the average number of deaths each year in the UK was country specific.
So we have at the moment ~50,000 deaths from covid, but in an average year some 14,000 people die from "seasonal" flu in the UK.

Taking things to a global level, as you have just used, the infamous "Spanish Flu" is estimated to have killed 50 million people worldwide.

Don't get me wrong, the current death toll in the UK is terrible, and all countries are doing their best to minimise it, but at times it can be useful to take stock of what has happened in the past, apart from the current situation.

Interesting the way this thread has evolved / developed.
Not that that is a bad thing in my opinion, but interesting all the same.
The OP @Social Misfit asked how he could be sure that he would be taken seriously in a shop if he said he could not wear a mask.
It iterations since gone through several iterations, how to make this possible, on to the different rules with the devolved governments, how the uk government has handled things, confusion over why now / why not in pubs, etc, etc, etc.
The thing that had me chuckle most is the opinions on the uk government giving out mixed messages like wear a mask, but you don't have to.
Here's one I will throw into the mix then.
Scotland, it is now law to wear a mask in shops, but not elsewhere, so you can put on a mask as you go into a shop, and when you leave rip it off.
I think we could learn a lot from this, as the Scottish government, and it's medical / science advisors must have knowledge that you can only catch covid in a supermarket........:18:
But you seem to have missed the point that the masks are supposed to protect other people, not you. At work we have insisted on people wearing masks when viewing, and sanitising their hands. We cannot effectively sanitise the goods, which range from books to furniture, so all we can try to do, basically ............. is stop people spitting/sneezing on them before other people handle them or passing the virus on through touch?

I have to be honest, I don't think I'd allow anyone in without a mask, for any reason at all. :8:

I used to work at a thrift shop, those clorox disinfecting wipes are safe to use on most furniture plus wood thats sealed.
On leather especially i would wipe it down with conditioner after, or wood polish, etc

Exactly the same as my local record shop that's just reopened. sanitise your hands before you go in, masks worn at all times, no more than 4 people in the shop at a time ... it's only a small shop no real way to distance for customers or staff and of course by it's nature everyone is flicking through and touching all the records. No exemptions or exceptions, if you don't like it they'll tell you to go home and download some music instead.

Byw, not suggesting u change your policies, im just saying that our thrift store was constantly needing to be de-funkified pandemic or not, and we used them on nearly everything, and lysol on the fabric (ive even used lysol on the outside of old books if they wernt worth much just to get rid of the musty smell)

Lysol or febreeze, whatever was handy...i hate old books
