Mask exemptions

I used to work at a thrift shop, those clorox disinfecting wipes are safe to use on most furniture plus wood thats sealed.
On leather especially i would wipe it down with conditioner after, or wood polish, etc
We can have up to 1000 lots ............ all viewed in a single day. Not possible. :D

Interesting the way this thread has evolved / developed.
Not that that is a bad thing in my opinion, but interesting all the same.
The OP @Social Misfit asked how he could be sure that he would be taken seriously in a shop if he said he could not wear a mask.
It iterations since gone through several iterations, how to make this possible, on to the different rules with the devolved governments, how the uk government has handled things, confusion over why now / why not in pubs, etc, etc, etc.
The thing that had me chuckle most is the opinions on the uk government giving out mixed messages like wear a mask, but you don't have to.
Here's one I will throw into the mix then.
Scotland, it is now law to wear a mask in shops, but not elsewhere, so you can put on a mask as you go into a shop, and when you leave rip it off.
I think we could learn a lot from this, as the Scottish government, and it's medical / science advisors must have knowledge that you can only catch covid in a supermarket........:18:

It really is quite simple..... and about limiting the spread, shops and supermarkets are busy places, same with buses and trains..... it's damage limitation.... of course you can get it in say a pub where no masks are required, but limiting the spread else where is where it's at the moment or the pubs will close again.
And it looks like you may be correct, Boris may have learned something from Scotland which will hopefully filter down to the good folks down South like yourself;)

Byw, not suggesting u change your policies, im just saying that our thrift store was constantly needing to be de-funkified pandemic or not, and we used them on nearly everything, and lysol on the fabric (ive even used lysol on the outside of old books if they wernt worth much just to get rid of the musty smell)

Lysol or febreeze, whatever was handy...i hate old books
We are an auction, so stuff comes in, gets entered in a sale and THEN goes out to either people's homes or shops similar to that. We have a single viewing day before the sale ........... everything is sold 'as found'. Dust, musty smells an' all. :D

Exactly the same as my local record shop that's just reopened. sanitise your hands before you go in, masks worn at all times, no more than 4 people in the shop at a time ... it's only a small shop no real way to distance for customers or staff and of course by it's nature everyone is flicking through and touching all the records. No exemptions or exceptions, if you don't like it they'll tell you to go home and download some music instead.
The only thing i hate more than old books is old records...buy an ipod ppl, lol

Before u audiophiles crucify me, think about having to carry crates of them back and forth thru a store all day, the r SO heavy

Do they still make iPods?

i was busy with work till after 5 today and had to nip round the corner to the postie afterwards to post some records. at lunchtime when i packaged them i remembered i’d need to take a mask.

forgot the mask, by the time i went. stepped inside the postie and noticed everyone in masks, and had to nip back home to get one. christ, it’s terribly uncomfortable to wear. i’ll really struggle in the supermarket, i think. like breathing hot air into your eyes. and i’d been chopping garlic just before i went, to make matters worse.
