Pubs across UK won’t re-open until Christmas

Many breweries have shut up shop - production wise, it's a massive problem, notably for the smaller ones, but not exclusively.
When the pubs do reopen are people going to flock to them? I'm a pisshead, but I won't be going near them, or any place where people gather, not for months and months and months, maybe a lot longer than that.

You know what i'm like mate. :)

I would go in one of two locals on the first day they are opened again, as I usually do in the middle of the afternoon which has always been quieter.

But if they are open for the first time around Christmas they won't see me till mid January, not because I am worried about covid, but because I hate pubs that are jammed full of once a year punters, that cause chaos for both the staff, and the regulars, and will not be seen again for another year.

There won't be many left in business by then to reopen

Very, very true mate.
I fear a lot of pubs will just be shut down by then.
The only ones that are likely to survive are the big chain places like Wetherspoons, McMullens, and a few others,
But they are not really "pubs" they are bars, with no real character.
It will be a shame, an end of an era for the traditional English pub, there is nothing like them in any other country.

Yes. I still remember being 15 :D

I used to get in a few of the pubs at around 15 I know it was then because I was still at school.

Had a strategy though, don't try to get in with a couple of mates.
Pick a pub down one of the side streets, don't touch one in the market square.
Don't push your luck, just order a half, not a pint.
For the first one pull out a pound note, so that it does not look as if you have just raided your money box.

Worked fine for me most of the time. :)

After a few weeks you become accepted as a regular.

Piling on loads of slap and hanging out with older boys not work for you then? :P

There was no way I was hanging out with older boy's

I was always trying to hang around with older slappers.........................

Pretty sure a lot of pubs would be trying to sell off their stock before it turns into vinegar. I certainly would be if I was still in the game.

If I was a landlord I would by now have tipped the barrels down the drain, and claimed the duty back, as it would be rank by then.
If I was in a small pub I would keep the keg stuff for myself, cause you never know when you could get another pint from yourself.

There are millions of pints in cellars going sour that they can't shift according to camra. [emoji24][emoji24]

That is the case, but don't forget that depending on their contract with the supplier (brewery, or wholesale beer supplier) they can return it for destruction by the supplier, or with the HMRC destroy it themselves to claim the duty back.
It may take a while with the current situation, but the reason for this is duty is paid to HMRC when it leaves the brewery, so if it is not sold to the public for consumption the duty can be claimed back, and don't forget duty is the largest perentage of the cost of a pint in a pub.
