What's new

So.. does anyone actually use TC ?

Once you have found how you like to vape and what material suits your need, I don't think it is that important if you do TC or Wattage mode.
When you are happy, stick with what's not broken and all of that.
Totally agree... well, to an extent, guess one always wants to stay open to new things, but not so much that you fail to enjoy what you know you like :).

Reminds me of a favourite long-running argument I have repeatedly with a very good old mate about music - he has thousands of albums, nearly as many CDs, buys more each week, and streams lots of new stuff on top. He is always sending me links to new bands and new discoveries demanding I listen to it (and agree with him that it's great).

I like to annoy him by re-iterating a point I made years back (mainly to annoy him) that no new music of any real artistic value has been produced since about 1980.

Sure, it's a hard proposition to back up completely, and I don't actually mean it 100% but it's a lot of fun to argue the toss with him ! - But I do mean it somewhere in the pretty high 90s and it's rare I listen to any music that isn't in the lovingly curated music collection stored on my home network.

I guess it's the same with vaping... err.. to get back to the point... I'll experiment with things once in a while, but generally more than happy to settle into what I know is damn good !

If only that was reflected in my buying of new mods and RDAs.... I'd save a lot of cash, I bought 3 RDAs and a new mod in the last fortnight !

i’ve messed with it before but concluded it is pointless for me. i do t like the strange “flat” dynamic of the puff, and i also never have problems with dry dunts.

if you like the weird puff dynamic, or can’t build your atties right and get dry hits all the time, it may be useful.

I have always been of the opinion that if you liked a Warm Vape then TC wasn't for you, I really don't like a warm Vape so TC suits me down to the Ground. Apart from Mesh i usually vape MTL at Low Wattage.

I'm using the TC on SS mesh in both, RDA and RTA, and on MTL SS single coil MTL arrangements (like Galaxies or Brunhilde MTL).
what I've observed, the curve is changing when the coil becomes covered with the tar, so 2 options:
- as soon as you will notice deviation clean/replace the coil
- as soon as you will notice the deviation - re-read the setup cold ohms (less preferred because the whole heating curve deviates)

Thanks, I usually change flavours a fair bit so do end up re-wicking often; and do a little scrub-up with with an old toothbrush and a wire brush so they rarely get a chance to get gunky and get cleaned fairly obsessively.

I suspect it's just me liking it a bit hotter than TC is designed for, I can get stable builds that never burn just fine, good flavour etc. but somehow it's just a bit too cool for my taste.

Last time I tried it in earnest I didn't have a DNA mod, now I have 2 so next time I'll be able to obsessively monitor exactly what's going on in their application, which should be interesting.

Mesh doesn't seem as bad as Coils when it comes to Gunk, certain juices can gunk up your Cotton but that's just a Rewick. SS Mesh seems to stay cleaner than Kanthal but is far more flimsy. I have found that SS Mesh just Disintergrates when trying to rewick it.

Yeah, I think you're right there re coils getting gunkier, guess there are more places for semi-burnt juice to lurk and fester.

I've only used SS mesh but yep, when it's failed it's just basically started to fall apart, that's only with the Vandy Vape SS reel mesh I have, the pre-cuts are sturdier and guess I've never used one long enough.

Oh yes, I never even tried to remove the gunk "as is". Normally I am removing the cotton, then I burn the gunk out of mesh, trying to mechanically remove the ask-like residues only.
It gives much better chances that the 0.15 tiny mesh survives the procedure ;)

Yep, I do the clean by firing the coil/mesh up, then cooling in water and repeat 2 or 3 times, I guess the sudden cooling might weaken the metal a bit but it certainly seems to dislodge the cr*p when I dunk it, then a bit of toothbrush action and a dunk or two more and under a decent magnifier all the gaps in the wire are empty of sludge and they look almost new.

The wire brush (little one, not one you'd scrub a rusty gutter with !) I use on fairly beefy coils only; as you suggest, a bit brutal for mesh.
