Vaping To Be Taxed

They tried to ban liquids over 10ml, didn't work, they tried to ban over 2ml tank/pod capacity, didn't work, they tried to ban 72mg nic, didn't work..... at some point they have got to realise bans don't work

TLDR 😂

Dear Daniel,

Thank you for emailing regarding the Vaping Products Duty, and for your your kind words following my re-election.

In the Budget delivered on October 30, the Chancellor confirmed that the Government will renew the tobacco duty escalator for the remainder of this Parliament at RPI+2%, increase duty by a further 10% on hand-rolling tobacco this year. Additionally, it was confirmed that the Government will introduce a flat-rate duty on all vaping liquid from October 2026, alongside an additional one-off increase in tobacco duty to maintain the incentive to give up smoking.

Thank you for raising your concerns surrounding this, and for sending through a number of resources and consultations. It is much appreciated. I will of course bare them in mind going forward.

Best wishes,

Ellie

The party will be over when what you buy no longer gets through customs...

In the UK, tobacco duties are expected to raise around £8.8 billion in 2024-25:
This is equivalent to 0.8% of all receipts and 0.3% of national income.

If only 0.3% of the national income Is from tobacco, is the tax revenue likely to be achieved on vapes even worth it?

it wouldn’t be if that was their motivation for doing it. but i don’t think it is.
