Cotton Bacon vs Fiber Freaks vs Muji

I can say Koh Gen Do is marginally better that the cotton which comes with the Subtank but not tried Muji or Bacon, it's definitely better than the cotton balls sent with Naturevape coils.

What actually is the cotton that comes with the SubTank?

Also I heard elsewhere that Fibre Freaks wicks better than other brands, any comments on this?

Koh Gen Do is just a brand name, probably exactly the same as the Subtank stuff. Meanwhile, wasn't kidding about Cotton Bacon Version 2:

100% agree with you there. I bought some fancy Japanese organic cotton pads on recommendation and just couldn't get on with the task from them compared to my subtanks.

Just got some fiber freaks #1 and #2 and only tested the #2 so far but it's a MASSIVE difference!! Testing on THE Milkman juice which is very subtle flavour wise and 99 VG and taste so much nicer.

Really nice to work with too and you'll get months of wicks out of the £3 bag. Can highly vouch for these!

Oh and if it helps that's on a derringer at 0.7 ohms. I've read a lot of people sayings it's just Re packaged rayon, but those who have actually tried it can confirm otherwise. I'm yet to find anyone who has tried #2 and not loved it.

I've never got further than Koh Gen Do, it was easier to wick than the cotton balls sent with my NV coil - so suits my requirements. Will have a go at some other stuff when this runs out. Thanks for the info.

I do love a good wick. Always sceptical about the latest thing but I'm a sucker for giving it a try. Silica, braided silica, voodoowool, ekowool, cotton, organic cotton, cellucotton, china grass ... I've tried them all at some point. I've been a committed Muji user for months now - it's not that much better than organic cotton balls but it's so much easier to use and is very efficient. Dry hits are a thing of the past for me but there is still something muting and wooly about the flavour from cotton, whatever the type. I did prefer the clean taste of cellucotton but the usability of Muji won the day for me, I really dislike handling cellucotton and making wicks from it. I never had a reaction from it as some vapers reported.

Two new vaper targeted brands have hit the market and by Christ they're expensive compared to the generic product. But they claim to be far superior, both suggest the product is by vapers for vapers. It was only a matter of time before I gave them a try.

Cotton Bacon - a vacuum sealed pack containing strips of cotton wool, by appearance they're simply unrolled cotton wool balls. Closer examination shows the fibres are long and aligned, so you're looking at the soft, fluffy contents of a Muji pad once the outer skins have been peeled off. Easy enough to tear off what you need and make a wick. Vaping in it, I've found no difference in performance or flavour to Muji. It tastes the same.

Fiber Freaks - also comes in a vacuum sealed pack with a choice of densities - type 2 is recommended for RDAs, type 2 is thinner/looser and better suited for RTAs and the smaller coils found in clearos. Rather than bacon strips these are felted pads which you can cut into strips to prepare a wick much like a Muji pad, only without an outer skin. Easy to work with unlike cellucotton and highly absorbant. Vaping on it is exceptional; no underlying taste from it at all just super clean flavour from your juice.

I deliberately selected light and delicate juices for testing wicking material - like melon, passionfruit etc. Much less of a taste difference is apparent when vaping my usual tobacco blend.

Well, I now have plenty of Muji and Cotton Bacon to work through but as a vaper who likes a variety of juices entirely through RDAs I hereby declare Fiber Freaks type 2 the clear winner. Your mileage will undoubtedly vary. :)

I wholeheartedly concur.

Useful info which saves time and money for others, nice one. Anyone care to rank KGD in with those or is it essentially muji with a different name?

KGD and super drug are the only cottons I've used (superdrug cotton does not rank very high IMO BTW)
I haven't tried KGD. I might be mistaken and someone might bung me a pad to convince me otherwise, but I've always assumed that KGD and Muji are different brand names for identical products - same horse, different jockey. Or as they say in Japan ... the bee finds the same blossom on many cherry trees.

Yeah I assume the same. My perception was that KGD was around first and Muji turned up after or was that just my perception? But yes also assumed they were the same. Well I've got enough KGD to swap a couple pads for some Muji and a yarn of FFreaks if anyone wants to play swapsies?

As like the other poster above, I never got past KGD - the fibres are straight, nice density....what do you wanna do? Get someone to take the pressed layers off for you, give it a light roll, some fancy packaging and charge double? When I heard of 'Fibre freaks' I think I did a sharp exhale through a curled top lip and thought...meh just another brand name, have they just reinvented the wheel?

I like to keep an open mind though so if anyone wants to swap some of the latest next best wicking material with the previous king of the hill KGD we can have a 'cotton-off'.........and report back here as to which are the same and which are the pretenders to the Throne.:D

What do you reckon scrumpox? I think you should add KGD to your field study list, you game?

Muji have always made cotton pads, they haven't suddenly developed them for vaping.
