iGo-l issue, where am I going wrong?

Hi folks, I have recently bought a iGo-l and can't seem to be able to build a decent coil. I either get a really nasty taste or the mother of all throat hits which almost makes me choke, but hardly any vapor!

I have followed a lot of how to's on wicking them, I tried wrapping the coil and threading silica wick doubled up afterwards, wrapping directly onto the wick, wrapping the coil and threading cotton through, but nothing will work, it's so frustrating knowing I'm doing something wrong and not knowing what it is!

I can recoil my protank2 with silica with no issues at all, good flavor, just the right throat hit and loads of vapor.

Are you lining up the air hole of your top cap with your coil correctly?

Are you lining the airhole up with the coil, if it's not in line you get odd results, and you will get more throat hit with a dripper...

What they said.
and, are you flaming the silica before wrapping?

Do you? I find that flavours become muted when you do that.

Yep!
Don't like the idea of inhaling machine oil... No muting of the flavour though for me...
I flame it, then wrap the coil, then give it a quick flame with some juice on it to 'bed it in'

Thanks for the quick replies.

I have the air hole opposite the coil, is this correct?

I am using .2 kenthal with 2mm silica, and tried 4-6 wraps.

I tried flaming first, just gave a different odd taste, and tried soaking with juice then burning it off, just made things worse.

Could it be that the coils are too tight or loose on the wick?

Airhole should be as close to the coil as possible - if you look through the hole you should see the coil, .2 kanthal is fine and 4 to 6 wraps is fine, you might want to double your silica, gives more juice capacity...

I will have another try and position the air hole like that.

I do double up the silica already, is it best to wrap directly to the silica this way? or to thread it through afterwards?

Any other tips before I give it another go?
