Moderna vaccine 95% effective

both of the vaccines use the spike protein on the virus, so in effect, it prevents the virus from replicating itself in the cells of the body it doesn't send in an army to kill the virus but they both use slightly different formulations

however, 90% and 95% effectiveness is amazing you have to understand the FDA in the USA class a vaccine effective at 50% there is no such thing as a 100% effective vaccine

when these rolll out with the other vaccines being developed I would expect an effective range of 70% to 88%

but the upscale is huge to make a billion vaccines is a massive task plus the training of nurses to give the vaccine the logistics is massive it will be the biggest mobilisation of this kind in history but the cost of the vaccine is between $4 to $25 in real terms in pounds the 95% vaccine will cost about £40 for you to be protected so if you need to vaccinate half the UK population it will cost over a billion pounds on a rough scale plus the cost of injecting 32 million people

so there are good and bad points but the chances of these jabs being used before Xmas is slim as they still have to be safe.

but the news is good we still have no full-proof vaccine to protect people from the flu as this changes every year people still get the vaccine and succumb to flu every year

I agree with your post, but I need to make a pedantic point about this - I think that sending in an army (your immune response) is exactly what these two currently announced vaccines do:

Since spike proteins aren’t normally found in human cells, their presence triggers the immune system, leading to a defensive response where the proteins are removed. Now that the immune system’s had some practice, it’s ready for the real thing. If someone who was vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 was exposed to the virus later on, their immune system is ready to react, and hopefully, fend off the virus.

At this point I just wish they are 100% confident on their job, the vaccine. Its a bit extrange how rush things are going now, you know, suddenly everyone found a "miracle".
...another thing that may happen, before we get a proper vaccine, is the virus in itself gets mutated and weakened and just dissapear like the Spanish Flu did

And unexpected secondary effects! my biggest fear.

I agree but the popular press are pitching the vaccine as a wonder drug that one shot will clear the planet of covid hence the army quote

At the moment the press is doing a Stirling job of messing this up

like the conversation last night I had

“we don’t need all these masks now we have a cure”

I must be watching different news channels because I haven't heard a single news outlet hail a miracle/wonder drug with one shot akin to a silver bullet. Everything I've heard from the UK, US and Euro news channels I watch has been crystal clear; it's early days but preliminary data is very positive and if it holds true it's a massive step forward in this pandemic but the task of rolling out the vaccines will be the greatest challenge in our entire modern human history and for us to really get a grip on coronavirus and return to normal the vaccines have to go hand in hand with the current measures of masks, hand washing and social distancing and it could still be a number of years before we get it under absolute control and life can return to a pre-pandemic level.

it’s no even jokes, just constant ill informed negative comments about everything. i’m no meaning to be a bam it would be fair enough if you were actually making a point or adding something to the discussion, but it’s a bit tiresome.
To be fair, other people might say the same about your posts? If it bugs you, just put him on ignore? Saves the rest of us wading through the sniping?

they might, and if they do they are welcome to reply to them and let me know.

i have no intention of putting him on ignore. i appreciate his comments in other threads. and i don’t think it’s sniping to let someone know that i find their continued negative and ill informed posts on a particular subject tiresome, or to ask if they are trying to make a point that i’m not getting.
