UK Incremental Smoking Ban (Tobacco & Vapes Bill) Starts Journey Into Law

They will not backtrack on any decision they make irrespective of any evidence put to them. This has become apparent with the pensioners and farmers fiasco so us poor vapers dont stand a chance.
They (politicians etc) are consumed by counterintuitive dogma...
Health Secretary Wes Streeting said the amount of children vaping "is growing at an alarming rate and without urgent intervention, we're going to have a generation of children with long-term addiction".
"It is unacceptable that these harmful products are being deliberately targeted at children with brightly coloured packaging and flavours like 'gummy bear' and 'rainbow burst'," he added.
"The Tobacco and Vapes Bill provides the protection that children and young people need to avoid a life imprisoned by addiction.
"That's why it's so incredibly important it is voted through."

As with any politician they will twist the truth and in lots of cases LIE to fuel their own agenda.

What Wes Streeting is saying is a total load of bollocks. Our children have far greater problems from a "life imprisoned" due to lack of opportunities such as work and housing, not knowing whether they identify as male or female, being addicted to social media, alcohol, drugs, gambling etc.

Very true.
Let's break it down...

Health Secretary Wes Streeting said the amount of children vaping "is growing at an alarming rate"...
When actually -
The rates of vaping among 11–17-year-olds appear to have stabilised after a period of increase.

"It is unacceptable that these harmful products are being deliberately targeted at children with brightly coloured packaging and flavours like 'gummy bear' and 'rainbow burst'," he added.
They never seem to be able to understand that many (or most) adults like sweet flavours as well.
And I doubt bright colours have much or anything to do with appeal to kids...

"The Tobacco and Vapes Bill provides the protection that children and young people need to avoid a life imprisoned by addiction."
He is apparently concerned about young people getting addicted; but while not to be encouraged, nicotine use without combustion is relatively benign.

Agree on all your points. As I said earlier, everything gets twisted to suit the outcome they want. I dont believe a word any of them say.

aye, i think particular blame lies with irresponsible and selfish influencers on the internet advertising the disposables that have always been illegal in this country that many of the teenagers are buying on the black market and puffing at school. entirely for their own benefit. talk about twisted, these characters will twist anything to suit their own ends. :)

Vaping is lumped in with tobacco, there is a link, tobacco is already restricted , advertising /plain packaging , out of sight etc....so it was coming whether the weans used disposables or not.
Vape shops have sprung up like nail bars and hairdressers with questionable marketing (not all but most).
The powers that be probably now see vaping as a workaround for smoking instead of a benefit to quit, no point restricting tobacco if everyone is just going to switch to blue slushie available to everyone, everywhere and in 30 years time we all look like Smurfs.
It is kind of out of control, has been for some time...it was good while it lasted, but was never going to carry on as is...... aw well will see what, if anything we are left with and take it from there, not much else can be done really.

In section 5 of the talking points..

3.
I’ve been speaking to Primary school head teachers in [constituency] who have shared with me that children as young as 9 have taken up vaping. Does the Minister agree with me that it is high time that we cracked down on brightly coloured, fruit flavoured, cheaply available vapes being marketed at our children?

4.
Does the Minister agree with me that Blue Raspberry, Bubblegum and Blueberry should remain as flavours of children’s sweets - in moderation of course! - rather than flavours of children’s vapes being targeted at them as they walk home from school?

you are right. of course it’s seen as a workaround for smoking by people that have never smoked. a workaround for smoking that doesn’t kill you, tastes of blue slushee and has spongebob packaging and flashing led lights.

the thing about weans and disposables is that it significantly changed public opinion. i think that’s what made this inevitable. of course the media were all over it. a school wean friendly and accessible workaround for smoking was the final straw.
