BBC Negative Vape Propaganda continues...

The parties are all around the centre. The centre of the Overton window that is. That window has been steadily moving to the right, so that Starmer is farther to the right than Thatcher was, despite being to the left of the Overton window.

This is the fallacy of representative republic, it’s a football match where your side wins this year, theirs the next. We’re all fighting for the scraps while we should be sitting at the table. Our right to decide over ourselves and our society are inalienable, not to be given or taken at whim. If a consenting adult wants to vape, as long as it doesn’t harm anyone else, who should have the right to take that away? Regardless if they’re marginally better on education, welfare, etc. If the (our?) government wants to make society better in regards to vaping they can secure safe imports, provide viable recycling programs, and help to quit for those who need it :hmm:

Imo there are no alternatives to the extremist centrism (read neoliberalism) that dominates the Overton window, and this leads to extremism on both the so-called right and left, and a total lack of belief that progress can be made.

Now I’m depressed and have to go cheer myself up with an espresso and chain vape a bit of Supergood nr 9 :18:

that’s no a surprise, starmer is a big fan of thatcher.

I actually think or fear that it is more insidious than that.. it's like the media are lobbying or attempting to influence the actions, policies, or decisions of legislators...
.. and why the lies or untruths?
The media has been doing that for years- you only had to look at the brexit thing to see that. Or boris - regardless of what you agree with they are still supposed to be impartial

I agree and disagree with that statement...

I think that if the disposables market had been treated responsibly by the vaping industry as a whole (with more of an onus probably on the manufacturers in that respect, but they are all in China, and probably don't really give a shit), then it may well have not looked so bad in the eyes of the legislators (in respect to environmental issues)...

But it wasn't.. and the horse has already bolted...
It is down to the manufacturer

but also surely the vendors selling them

they are rarely discreetly on a site as an emergency back up, they are rarely in shops in the background behind all the reusable pods and rebuildable atomisers.

they are generally in the front pages of sites with “THREE FOR FIFTEEN QUID!” And in the case of shops, in a lot of them they are the only thing visible.

and this is not responsible if its the first thing pushed - nor is it the fault of the manufacturer.

in regards to its effect on the rest of the vape industry and community - its very irresponsible in my book. I notice the defenders (not including you here toby) of them tend to be the people selling buckets of them.

they have a place - i cant help but feel that place has been abused at the detriment of the whole industry.

ive looked on your site @Toby iVapour and tbh - you HAVE got it right. I almost thought you didn't sell them. Tucked away in the corner. That seems to be the right balance for people who want them to take on holiday etc.

a lot of us predicted these things would have a very detrimental impact on the industry if allowed to run riot - it was blatantly obvious in fact.

they are doing

Thanks.

In our physical shop we barely have disposables on display, just an example of the 3 different types we stock, in amongst kits & mods etc. If people want larger than 600 puffs, we always recommend a refillable e-cig.

In fact, most of what we sell we don't have on display, because there's not really room for it, so we just have menus instead. If someone wants a new kit, we establish criteria first, and then talk about & bring through/ show options.

This isnt the norm with disposables at the minute though. I would consider your methods of sale and advertising responsible.

Well, maybe they would smoke instead.

Teenagers have been smoking, and now more are vaping, since time immorial.

it’s possible, but i think highly unlikely. teenage smoking has declined massively since the mid to late 90s. smoking isn’t considered cool by most youngsters any more.

also, we live in a totally different culture. these disposable have got into the “influencer” orbit. that’s where the lids are picking it up. as a thing, they are appealing to youngsters. and the marketing, and some of the product design, is explicitly intended to capitalise on this. the appeal is in a completely different way from smoking used to be.
