UK Incremental Smoking Ban (Tobacco & Vapes Bill) Starts Journey Into Law

Let's hope they can stay in power long enough to fulfill their pledge lol. They may need more than the intended injection of money to cope with the increase of smoking related deaths one they've destroyed the vaping industry that in part have saved thousands of lives.

Any government that comes out with a 10 year plan for anything is a joke but for the NHS it's zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Guess they are taking the optimistic approach but they are putting the backs of a lots of their voters ie pensioners, vapers and farmers for 3. The NHS has been declining for years with its underfunding, mismanagement and the endless burden on its resources with the ongoing increase of people using its resources.

They will be thinking that they have lots of time to turn things around, which is why they do these things now and not 6 months before an election

Prob take about 10 years to make a dent, but something has to be done.
Very true mate. The old adage to little to late springs to mind. A complete re-think approach is needed for the benefit of the NHS and not just sticking plasters ....pardon the pun.

A re-think is what the government is saying they plan based on the Darzi review though the re-think looks to be concentrate on GPs and preventive health measures rather than hospitals. That all sounds well and good though previous such re-thinks haven't fared well and most importantly it won't do much for those stuck on waiting very long lists who need treatment.

I have very little faith in their ability to do anything other than make a bad situation just as bad or even worse. If the figure I've seen are correct then it's going to cost us billions with no or very little gain.
As you mentioned the waiting lists most likely wont reduce and it will still be a pain to get a doctor or dentist appointment, treatment in hospitals etc.

The operating theatres should be running 24/7, but of course they don't have the staff and the consultant's like the nine to five work.
