UK Incremental Smoking Ban (Tobacco & Vapes Bill) Starts Journey Into Law

... rather than getting a grip, the industry ramped up this stupid shit. and i include disposables, all of them, as part of this wider problem.
And to some extent I agree...
.. but the rise of the popularity of disposables (like it or loathe it), is a bit like objecting to the takeover of Syria by al-Jawlani & HTS (topical comparison), i.e. basically an unstoppable force...

As much as I don't like disposables, and may well be a major part (or reason) for the future downfall of vaping in the UK, but at the same they have enabled many people to quit smoking (or stay not smoking).
And we have profited from them as well (though not greatly, as they are not the main vapes we sell).

Basically, disposables can not be ignored or undone, but will soon be banned (which I pretty much agree with, if only they hadn't use it as a premise as an excuse to restrict vapes in other ways as well).

But also, to play the blame game makes we wonder how far you go with it...
e.g. when Sunak & cronies decided to appropriate New Zealand's due to be implemented generational smoking ban (later repealed), who or why did they exactly decide to restrict vapes as well in the same legislation?

yes, that it’s inevitable is probably why i am quite apathetic about it all.

as for the decision to add vape restrictions to their incremental smoking ban, as @Rickster said above they don’t want people to smoke, or to vape. i suppose if we consider vaping to be an aid to stop smoking, once smoking is phased out they will be redundant. most folk don’t see things from the point of view of an ex smoker, or a person who likes nicotine.

Even by that logic, the generational smoking ban is only due to take effect in 2027 (legal age to buy tobacco will increase by one year each year).
So that's a couple of years away, and in the meantime we will see harsh vape restrictions + extra tax, before the smoking ban only starts to have a gradual effect on the adult population.
In the meantime the black market for tobacco (and presumably vapes) will increase, and meanwhile for many years (decades), most of the adult population will still be able to legally buy tobacco. So by their logic, even as an aid to stop smoking, vapes becoming redundant is a long way off...

aye, i agree. the government’s actions are are shut. but i think part of their justification of tax is also as a disincentive to teenagers, no? so they can’t afford to buy vapes?

Yup, that's their logic -
HM Treasury posted on X: “We want to discourage non-smokers & young people from taking up vaping. From 1 Oct 2026, we’re introducing a vaping duty for the first time at £2.20 per 10ml of liquid. Plus a one-off tobacco duty rise to keep the incentive to choose refillable vaping over smoking.”

i’ve not attacked you. like you say it is good to debate things. and one of the things people will often point out in a debate is hypocrisy. many folk think the government’s actions are fuelled at least in part by the kind of devices you are advertising on your website. to contribute to the problem, and then come here and moan about what is happening seems hypocritical to me, and i think it is valid to point it out.

I've looked up the definition of " hypocrisy" and "hyprocritical" and fail to see how you can judge me as falling into this category. I join in on various discussions, in particular this one relating to the governments proposed plans regarding the banning of disposables, the implementation of tax on vaping products, the restrictions of flavours etc.

At what point do my actions and me reviewing disposables on my website make me a hypocrite when I've said several times disposables play a role in helping people switch to vaping.

Explain.

in my opinion it is hypocritical. you run adverts on your website for colourful and child friendly disposables, mostly non tpd ones that are unlawful in this country.

disposables have contributed to the current situation. especially the debate around legal/illegal ones. in my opinion that makes you somewhat complicit, with a big chunk of the rest of the industry, in what is happening. that is why i think it is hypocritical of you to then come on here complaining about it.

i am just stating my opinion because you asked me to.

Oh dear, yet again you've chosen to elaborate on other points to try and justify your reasons for calling me a hypocrite and now I find you saying I'm complicit in my actions too.

When you throw accusations against people do you not stop to think of the consequences it can have? I still fail to see what me joining in on a conversation regarding what the government are proposing to implement makes me a hypocrite? Your comment of me coming on here and complaining about it is just not valid and incorrect.

You're now pointing out I run adverts on my website that are "colourful" and "child friendly "!!! I do wonder at what level you're willing to stoop down to so you can get your point across.

I see that the bill is positioned as saving the NHS from being overwhelmed and facing bankruptcy. Meanwhile the government announce a 10 year plan to save it. lol.

Let's hope they can stay in power long enough to fulfill their pledge lol. They may need more than the intended injection of money to cope with the increase of smoking related deaths one they've destroyed the vaping industry that in part have saved thousands of lives.
